Junior Golf Authority Savannah kids golf lessons

ASWING Junior Golf Academy Spring Semester Clinics
Beginning Sat. Feb. 2 2019.
The ASWING Junior Golf Academy begins its 12-week semester of clinics for girls and boys ages 5 years old to high school seniors. Certified curriculum & staff provide a FUN & process-driven plan to coach your child to play better golf no matter their ability, as well as cultivating the character development that golf provides.

These coaches are not trying to help create good golfers. They’re trying to create AMAZING golfers. They believe that should be the goal of every junior golf program in the country. However, the way they will go about creating those amazing golfers is vastly different from what is available in most junior golf programs. The focus is on the needs & learning styles of the juniors. Kids learn by playing and by encouragement, which they provide with our “golf playground” of stations and activities during every clinic. The kids love the excitement…some days even a parent can play too! The children who go through ASWING will build a love for golf and physical activity.

Be sure to take note of the kids’ faces as they go through the program. Watch the smiles. Watch the laughter. Watch the determination. Watch how their bodies move. Because of the varying physical nature of this program and its cross-training, the athletes who play other sports will also see increased skill levels in those sports.

To learn more about Savannah’s Junior Golf Authority, visit www.A-Swing.com or call Coach Paul at 912-704-8902 while slots are available.

Island Treasures Jekyll Island 2017 Daytrips Savannah

Every year, Jekyll Island commissions a group of highly skilled artisans from across the U.S. to create exquisite, handworked glass floats for Jekyll’s annual Island Treasures event.

(Jekyll Island is an easy, roughly 90-minute drive down I-95 from Savannah. See our list of things to do with kids on on Jekyll Island here. )

The glass floats are part of a hide-and-seek style game played on Jekyll Island throughout January and February. Each day, volunteers called Beach Buddies hide clear globes around the island for lucky guests to find and redeem for a real glass float. Gather your friends and family to search for globes that can be exchanged for dazzling handcrafted glass floats.

Savannah Book Festival 2019 children’s event featuring bestselling author Kwame Alexander & more

Saturday, November 24th, 2018

SBF Children's event 2019 kwame alexander live oak public library book children's

As you know, the beloved free, fall Savannah Children’s Book Festival in Forsyth Park was cancelled this year after the City of Savannah revised their festival grant funding.

But Live Oak Public Libraries and Savannah Book Festival will present an alternative children’s event at the 2019 Savannah Book Festival on Sun. Feb. 17 at 1PM in Reynolds Square. The SBF Children’s Tent, which will feature author appearances, activities and book-signings, will be sponsored by Live Oak Public Libraries and Live Oak Public Libraries Foundation.

While SouthernMamas.com appreciates this children’s tent with author visits, we hope the original, full, one-day Savannah Children’s Book Festival will return to Forsyth Park in Fall 2019.

“We are excited to host the SBF Children’s Tent this year,” said Savannah Book Festival Board President Beau Anders. “We strongly believe in the importance of the event for the library and literacy in our community.” Anders said that SBF was looking forward to collaborating with LOPL in February as both organizations are committed to promoting reading for all ages in the community.

“It is with great excitement that Live Oak Public Libraries, with the generous support of the Library Foundation, will be partnering with the Savannah Book Festival to incorporate a children’s event in February of 2019,” stated Charlotte Welch, Chair, Regional Board of Library Trustees. “The event will continue the Library’s goal of promoting children’s literacy in our communities and we look forward to our joint venture with this popular and educational festival.”

Featured authors scheduled to appear in the SBF Children’s Tent are:
Kwame Alexander, Newbery Medal winner
Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, New York Times Best Sellers
Michael Patrick O’Neill, World Press Photo award-winning wildlife photographer
Javaka Steptoe, Caldecott Medal winner

Additional activities include book-signings, celebrity storytimes, music, and arts and crafts for kids. The SBF Children’s Tent is free and open to the public.
