An eccentric and reclusive candy maker Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) who has been hiding inside of his candy factory for years, announces a worldwide contest. Golden tickets have been distributed inside of five of his candy bar wrappers, and the children who find these tickets win a tour of the mysterious factory and a lifetime supply of chocolate. Poor, local boy Charlie has almost lost hope of being one of the lucky winners until he finds some spare change and uses it to buy one last chocolate bar. To his surprise he finds the fifth and final ticket. Once he and the other four motley children are inside the factory, the tour becomes a test of their loyalty and morality.
