Here’s a way to participate in a 5K and raise money for people with autism.

The Ignite the Senses 1st Annual Autism Awareness 5K Bubble Run & Children’s Dash, April 29 2017, 8-10AM

This 5K Bubble Run & Children’s Dash is to raise community awareness and acceptance for those living with autism. The proceeds from this event will provide scholarships and special activities, such as a caring Santa and art and music programs for the special needs population.

The 5K race starts and ends at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. It is a fast and flat course thru Old Town Bluffton, chipped timed by Palmetto Running Company. Followed by a Children’s DASH event. The award ceremony will take place following DASH.

Hilton Head St. Baldrick’s headshaving fundraiser, March 18

Mellow Mushroom of Hilton Head Island will host the sixth annual St. Baldrick’s headshaving fundraiser on Sat. March 18 2017, 3-5PM.

Joe DiNovo of Joe’s Barbershop will lead the team of barbers shaving the heads of the Hilton Head area men, women and children, encouraging the community to support their action by making donations to their team.

In addition to the headshaving, the event will feature a silent auction and live music.

The fundraiser is organized by Terry and Cynthia Cermak, who started the event in honor of their son Henry.

In 2013, St. Baldrick’s created a Hero Fund in his name: the Henry Cermak Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research. The Cermak’s headshaving events have raised over $110,000.00 for Henry’s Fund, and provided 50% of the funding for a research grant studying pediatric brain cancer treatments at St. Jude Hospital.

This year, the goal is to surpass $125,000 in total donations for Henry’s Fund.

Coed program designed for children between the ages of 6 and 9 who love soccer and want to learn from professional coaches.  This is the highest level of training offered for this age group.  There are no tryouts associated with Pre-Academy.

·      Savannah practice days are Monday and Thursday from 4:30-6:00 with games on Saturday morning.  All practices and games take place at Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex.

·      Hilton Head practice days are Monday and Wednesday from 4:30-6:00 with games on Saturday morning.  All practices and games take place at Barker Field.

·      The season will begin on Monday, February 20th and continue until May 6th.

Designed for girls between the ages of 6 and 9 who want to play with other girls and learn from professional female coaches.  This program requires less of a time commitment than our coed Pre-Academy Program.  There are no tryouts associated with Pre-Academy.

Program details and registration process:

·      Practice days are Tuesday from 4:30-6:00 (option to add Thursday practice) with games on Saturday morning.  All practices and games take place at Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex.

·      The season will begin on Tuesday, February 20th and continue until May 6th.

·      The registration fee is $250 for 1 practice per week and 1 game; the registration fee is $375 for 2 practices per week and one game.  Nike uniforms (2 jerseys, 1 shorts, 2 socks, and 2 Augusta Sportswear practice shirts) are approximately $120 and are good through the Spring 2018 season.

·      Children born between the years 2008 and 2011 are able to register for this program.

Hilton Head Island Recreation Association will host the 2017 Hilton Head Snow Day on January 28, 2017 from 11AM-4PM at Shelter Cove Community Park.

This family event will have inflatable rides, snowfield, and entertainment! For the kids who have never seen snow, this is the perfect event!

Fire stations all over Beaufort County, SC are accepting Letters to Santa from all the boys and girls until Fri. Dec. 16.

Each station has its own decorated “Santa Mailbox” out front of it. Children of all ages are encouraged to write Santa a letter.

Firefighters even have it on good report that the jolly old elf will reply to every letter that is placed in those mailboxes before Dec. 16 at 12 noon.

Through noon Dec. 16, 2016, children are encouraged to write their letters and mail them. Please be sure that each letter is in an envelope with a return address so that Santa and his elves know who it came from and where to send their return post.

Look for Santa and their local firefighters spending time in their respective communities throughout the holiday season in parades, neighborhood visits, and special events.
