It’s Open Enrollment time for the Savannah Jr. DerbyTaunts, Savannah’s only all girl roller derby team.

Open Enrollment is every Saturday morning from August 6th thru September 3rd, 9-11AM at Starcastle, located at 550 Mall Blvd in Savannah.

Open to girls ages 8-17. The only skill necessary to join is the ability to skate on lap without falling down. They’ll train you for the more advanced levels required to compete.

It’s free and fun to come try!

Skaters must bring their own water bottle and sports mouth guard. Skaters must have medical insurance. Skates, helmets and protective gear will be available for use during Saturday practices until you get your own.

Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary invites you to tour NOAA Ship Nancy Foster on Sunday, July 17, 10AM-2PM along River Street.

Research divers on the 187-ft. vessel will have just returned from a groundbreaking, 10-day “Dive after Dark” trip to Gray’s Reef and will talk about their discoveries.

The Nancy Foster will be docked on the River Street waterfront in Savannah, near the Hyatt Hotel.

Free ship tours will last 30 minutes and begin every 20 minutes, starting at 10AM. They are complemented by 15-minute walking tours of the bronze Gray’s Reef markers embedded along River Street.

Almost time for I Pledge season @ Leopold’s Ice Cream in downtown Savannah

The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge hosts a preschoolers “Young Explorers Club” on the first Tuesday of each month.

The free, hour-long monthly program for 3-4 year-olds starts at 10AM on the first Tuesday of each month.  There will be story time, crafts, snacks, and take-home activities all about this month’s topic.

The programs are at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center (694 Beech Hill Lane Hardeeville, SC 29927).

Each month, a different animal or method of conservation will be highlighted. Juniors of Girl Scout Troop 30387 have designed the monthly programs as their service project for completing the Bronze Award. The themes are:

Live Oak Public Libraries presents 2016 Summer Reading Program June 1 through July 31

Read for rewards and enjoy great shows and activities at all Live Oak Public Libraries branches this summer, June 1 through July 31. The “On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!” Summer Reading Program is open to children and teens up to 18 years old.

To get started, visit any Live Oak Public Libraries branch in Chatham, Effingham or Liberty County and pick up your On Your Mark, Get Set…READ! reading log or download one from our  website, www.liveoakpl.org. Don’t forget to register online in the Dugout area of our website so you qualify for all the great prizes! In the Dugout you can also share reviews of your favorite books, see what others are reading this summer, make a wish list, and keep track of what you’ve read!

Read anything – comics, graphic novels, newspapers, e-books and, of course, library books. You can also participate by listening to stories read aloud (so even babies can participate!) or by listening to audiobooks. Yes, attending a library storytime or program counts, too!

Read or be read to for a total of 10 hours. Complete and record your 10 hours from June 1 through July 31.

Keep track of the hours you’ve read by putting X’s through the sports icons (sneakers, bicycles, baseballs and footballs) on your summer reading log. Keep track of the book titles you’ve read in the Dugout area of our website. You’ll need these to get your free book from Barnes & Noble (while supplies last).

LEVEL 1:  Completed 10 hours? Starting June 11th, you can bring in your reading log and you’ll receive an entry form for the Grand Prize ($500 Oglethorpe Mall gift card) a coupon for a free book from Barnes & Noble, and a Level 1 Coupon Sheet with rewards from: Papa John’s Pizza, Lovin’ Spoons Self-Serve Fro-Yo, Frames-n-Games, Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, and UGA Marine Extension Service Aquarium. The festival begins with an interactive performance by Jamal Toure and other local storytellers, followed by demonstrations by traditional artists throughout the region. Children can experiment with crafts and try their hand at a variety of artmaking projects. A special highlight of the afternoon includes a live concert by reunited members of the Gospelaires, a legendary a cappella vocal group from Pin Point, offering a rare treat to the celebration.

Prints at the Telfair Academy
Telfair Museums has an incredible collection of prints, but they are not always on display. This Free Family Day gives you a chance to glimpse some of these amazing works in the historic Telfair Academy, featuring master artists such as Rembrandt and Whistler. You can also try your hand at different printmaking techniques to create masterpieces of your own!

Victory Square Stadium 9 in Savannah will offer FREE children’s movies this summer

The free kid series starts May 31 and runs Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday for 8 weeks. It is free for all ages and is on a first come first serve basis. Movies start at 10AM. We’ll post the free movie schedule here when it is released.

Carmike 10 Savannah will offer $4 movies on Thursday mornings & theaters in Pooler will offer $1 movies on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
