Sensory Soft Sunday Savannah autism 2019

Make connections while enjoying our many exhibits in a sensory-friendly way.

Savannah Children’s Museum will open early from 9-10AM Sat. for families with special needs or children who have autism to enjoy the site with less crowds and tailored sensory friendly programming.

Tickets: $8 for all guests and FREE for members.

Attendees are welcome to stay after 10AM for regular museum hours.

Savannah Children’s Museum exhibits can be enjoyed by all ages but are designed for children 12 years old and younger.

Families with children who have autism or special needs are invited to participate in Savannah’s 8th Annual Free Sailing Regatta for Children with Autism. 

Hosted by Savannah Sailing Center and RHHS Sailing Team.

The event on Sat. April 13, 10AM-2PM @ Lake Mayer includes sailing, arts and crafts as well as lunch. This is a FREE event. However, families need to register to get the shirt and goody bags.

Matthew Reardon Center for Autism (MRCA) in Savannah operates southeast Georgia’s only accredited year-round day school for children 5- to 18-years-old with autism.

MRCA has recently expanded their existing 5,000 square foot facility by 1,000 square feet, allowing the organization to increase enrollment to 22 students.

An Open House and tour of the expanded space will be Wed. Nov. 15, 2017, 5:30-7 PM. Teachers will be available for questions at the open house. Refreshments will be available for guests.

About the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism

MRCA offers a multi-therapeutic, communication-based approach to academics, and social and life skills education using Applied Behavior Analysis methodology. Additionally, all students receive Speech, Occupational, Physical and Music therapy as part of their curriculum.

Accredited by the Georgia Accreditation Commission, ADVANCE Academy’s teachers communicate with parents daily. Student progress can be monitored by parents through their online system. Parent training workshops are held four times a year in addition to quarterly parent conference and annual IEP conferences. MRCA advocates work with families, both at AA and throughout the community, to ensure they obtain needed support services needed, such as IEP planning and development, SSI, Medicaid and extra-curricula activities.

Student to teacher ratio is 2:1 in elementary and 3:1 in the middle and upper school classrooms. Teachers and staff members have special certifications, including Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and GA Professional Standards Commission Certification. All staff members are Safety-Care Certified and CPR Certified. A master’s degree is required for all lead teachers, and a bachelor’s degree required for all teaching assistants.

Annual tuition is $9,350 for the 12-month school term. Students at MRCA participate in the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program, with limited additional tuition assistance available through the GA Tax Credit Scholarship Program.

Autism Awareness 5K Dash Bluffton 2017 Here’s a way to participate in a 5K and raise money for people with autism.

The Ignite the Senses 1st Annual Autism Awareness 5K Bubble Run & Children’s Dash, April 29 2017, 8-10AM

This 5K Bubble Run & Children’s Dash is to raise community awareness and acceptance for those living with autism. The proceeds from this event will provide scholarships and special activities, such as a caring Santa and art and music programs for the special needs population.

The 5K race starts and ends at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. It is a fast and flat course thru Old Town Bluffton, chipped timed by Palmetto Running Company. Followed by a Children’s DASH event. The award ceremony will take place following DASH.

Packet Pick up Friday April 28 9AM-7PM at Ignite the Senses Gym, 163 Bluffton Road, Suite C-1 and Race day morning from 7-7:30AM at the race start.

Race location: Downtown Bluffton starting and ending at the Oyster Factory.

Sailing Regatta for Children with Autism Savannah 2017 Savannah Sailing Center will host The 6th Annual Sailing Regatta for Children with Autism and Special needs, providing an opportunity for them and their families to experience the joy of sailing and open up a new world of interest.

If you have a child with autism/special needs please bring him/her along with the entire family free of charge to Lake Mayer on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 10AM-2PM and sail with the wind. A parent or guardian must accompany all children.

Ignite the Senses Sensory Gym Bluffton SCIgnite the Senses children’s sensory gym in Bluffton SC ignites children’s curiosity to explore new activities and new social relationships.

As Bluffton’s only children’s sensory gym, Ignite the Senses aims to spread community awareness and acceptance for those living with autism in and around the Lowcountry. Children with autism and typical children can grow physically, emotionally, and socially together whether in the open gym setting or in any of the small group classes offered.

Offerings @ Ignite the Senses include:

* art and music programs/classes
* special camps during the summer and school holidays throughout the year
* children’s birthdays and special events
* support group gatherings monthly for local families with children who have autism.

Every Wednesday 10AM-Noon. Bring your little ones in to meet some new friends while having a ball. Your payoff will be at home later when your toddler goes down easily for a nap thanks to Toddler Time.

SPECIAL NEEDS PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

Fri. Feb. 24 at 5-7 PM. This group will allow parents of special needs children a place to receive support and compassion from other parents dealing with the same situations. A place to vent, exchange tips & provide a sense of peace to one another. Details here.
