Let your kids see kid-made robots in action. Join Live Oak Public Libraries to celebrate the Robot Dance Academy at Garden City Library on Mon. May 8.

This recital is the culmination of an 8-week LEGO MINDSTORMS workshop offered in cooperation with the Society of Women Engineers – Savannah Coastal Empire (SWE).

Come see student-built LEGO robots, and watch them dance using creative computer code! 

This program was offered thanks to the generosity of a Strengthening Communities Through Libraries grant awarded by the ALSC – The Association for Library Service to Children made possible by a donation from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Representing Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty Counties, there were 16 students from grades 4 through 8 that participated in educational sessions held at the Garden City Library from March through May.

We all know there are many benefits of moving our bodies daily. Clarity of mind, stress relief, and a ton of feel-good hormones to name a few. Our kids are no different and in fact can benefit even more from exercise in some unexpected ways.

Crossfit Hyperformance Athletics in Savannah shares the following 3 elements which are a part of every Crossfit Kids class because they are so important for development.

Hanging. Crossfit kids love to climb on ropes and hang on rings. This is their favorite part of class! Hanging is important whether it’s from monkey bars or tree limbs because it stabilizes the shoulder girdle. This leads to better posture and performance in school and improved motor skills. It also helps to prevent injury later when kids participate in throwing sports.

Jumping / Landing. This is the number one factor increasing bone density and will set your child up for stronger bones through out life. Cutting out soda isn’t bad either if you want to maintain bone density. This is fabulous for adults, too.

Inversion. Going up-side-down whether a cartwheel, roll, or learning a handstand helps to train the inner ear. Movements like these help increase coordination and make kids more aware of how their bodies move in space. Coordination and awareness leads to better sports performance and reduces injury.
Of course, all these elements are great for grown-ups too!

Instructor Becca Flaherty will lead you and your child through 45 minutes of folk songs, nursery rhymes, games, children’s literature, and Classical music each week. Based in research of childhood develpment, behavior, and learning modality, your child will develop essential skills, both musical and non-musical. The songs and games you learn in class will make their way into your everyday routine, enhancing quality time.

Caregivers are required to participate; your child will learn best by watching and imitating your example. New kids’ fitness classes starting soon @ Fit46 Studio in Savannah.

FIT46 KIDS AGES 8 – 13: Help your kids develop healthy habits and have fun working out with experienced instructors who love kids and have a passion for fitness.

Kids just want to have fun and Fit46 Studio wants to show them how to enjoy exercise while improving their health and advancing their levels of fitness. Each class will include the following components: agility, balance, coordination, strength, cardiovascular endurance, motor skills development and enhancement, sports skills and drills, and fitness games. Children should wear comfortable clothing with athletic shoes and be ready to create a long-lasting and fun relationship with exercise.

This class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 – 5PM for ages 8-13, starting March 6.

Recreation Program U10-U14

Each team plays 6 games during the regular season and are then seeded into a playoff bracket to decide the Champions. Girls and Boys teams play separately. Teams practice once or twice a week and training sessions last between 60-90 minutes.

Micro U4-U8 Program

Micro players (U4, U5, U6, U7, U8) make up the largest number of participants in US soccer. Because this is entry level for a lot of children, Savannah United views this program as the grassroots of the club. To ensure players develop a love for the ’beautiful game’, we make sure it is run in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Practices are geared towards individual skill and coordination development.

Micro Program teams can train at a variety of the facilities around & outside of Savannah. (you can select your preference when registering).
