How to help abused/neglected children in Savannah, Chatham County

Friday, November 13th, 2020

CASA Savannah Chatham County volunteer sessions 2020 virtual

You can change an abused or neglected child’s story.

Savannah/Chatham County’s nonprofit CASA program, part of a national program which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, is in need of more volunteers to represent the best interests of abused or neglected children in the court system.

This week’s SouthernMamas.com newspaper article spotlights how a Savannah CASA volunteer helped save a teen who ran away with a man she met online. Read it here.

You, too, can become a CASA volunteer. Online CASA volunteer info sessions are held regularly.

Virtual informational sessions for volunteers
Thurs. Nov. 19 2020, 5:30pm
Thurs. Dec. 10 2020, 5:30pm

Register for the online info sessions on how to be a CASA volunteer here.

CASA trains volunteers to serve as the eyes and ears of judges in child abuse and neglect cases. A newly trained volunteer is appointed one case at first to research in depth. This involves talking to the children, relatives, teachers and others, attending court hearings, completing court reports and more. The volunteer then reports back to the judge with information gathered about what would be in the best interest of the child.

Abused or neglected children in the court system who have a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a safe, permanent home, more likely to get more help while in the system, and more likely to do better in school.

Last Minute Holiday Trips for 2020

CONGRATS! You’ve made it to the home stretch of 2020, surviving all this year has thrown at you!

Months of quarantine. Hunting for toilet paper and sanitizer. Cancelled vacations. Virtual schooling. And the seemingly endless list can go on.

If you’re feeling ready to explore, adventure or just need to relax and unwind, the holidays are always a great time to travel. And it’s certainly not too late to plan a last minute holiday vacation.

Two Sisters Travel is sharing their Top Picks for Last Minute Holiday Escapes in 2020.

Hawaii

Situated in the Pacific Ocean and over 2,100 miles from the mainland sits the small island chain of Hawaii. These gorgeous volcanic islands formed millions of years ago are still intriguing visitors today.

Steeped in breathtaking natural beauty, warm Polynesian culture, and a near perfect year round climate, Hawaii makes an ideal tropical destination to celebrate the holiday season. Experience it all from history & culture, to relaxation & adventure.

Theme Parks

Celebrating the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort or Universal Orlando Resort can be the perfect escape from reality. Slip into themed lands of fantasy, adventure, nature and science forgetting about the hustle & bustle of the season.

Enjoy special decorations, entertainment and other seasonal offerings inside the parks. And for a limited time take advantage of special discounts.

Caribbean & Mexico

If you prefer sandcastles over snowmen, there’s nothing quite like celebrating the holiday season on island time by sipping frozen drinks on white sand beaches. Resorts throughout the Caribbean & Mexico combine relaxation and adventure blending together an incredible vacation experience.

All inclusive resorts offer a great value by including accommodations, dining, drinks, activities and entertainment in one package price. Makes for an overall stress-free vacation.

Ski Trips

Dreaming of a snowy holiday season? Experience a winter wonderland adventure in Colorado, Utah, or Wyoming filled with skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dog sledding and more.

Two Sisters Travel can customize the perfect itinerary for families and groups from 2 to 22 with accommodations from cabins to hotels, even private residences. And they’ll package your trip with lift tickets, rentals, activities and more.

National Parks

Highlighting some of America’s most breathtaking landscapes and landmarks our National Parks are true treasure to explore. A few of Two Sisters Travel favorites to visit during the winter are Yellowstone, Death Valley, Bryce Canyon and Everglades.

Each offers an entirely different appeal and experience. Two Sisters Travel will help you narrow down the overwhelming number of options to curate the right itinerary to fit your national parks vacation vision.
