SkateFest 2013 at The Civic Center starts Dec. 14 2013 @ Civic Center in the Martin Luther King Jr Arena located at 301 W Oglethorpe Ave.

SkateFest, the yearly public ice skating event at the Savannah Civic Center, kicks off on Saturday, December 14th, and runs daily (except Friday Dec 20th and Dec 25th Christmas Day) through Saturday, January 4th.

Skate Secessions are 1.5 hrs Admission is $7.00 per person for skaters and spectators which includes skate rental or $35 for 6 sessions. The popular family friendly, alcohol free activity takes place in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Arena. It is co-sponsored by Coca Cola and WSAV TV.

Hundreds of costumed volunteers bring to life this outdoor production that Savannah Christian Church has hosted since 1998. In 2013 The Journey is all-new, completely re-imagined. Volunteers are building a new walled town of Bethlehem. Streets will be lined with a bakery, cloth and jewelry shops, vegetable and spice stands, an inn, tannery and blacksmith shops. Live animals – camels at the tent of the Wise Men, lions at Herod’s place, and sheep, goats, geese and more outside of Bethlehem – will further enliven the experience.

Savannah Christian Church is rebuilding this year to create an even more authentic experience – as if you stepped back in time to an ancient Middle Eastern town. They’re also making room for even more visitors.

BooLand is an Abercorn Terrace community outreach program that will take place this Halloween, Oct. 31. The program began as an idea to provide local elementary school students a safe place to trick-or-treat.

It has since grown into a Halloween carnival of sorts, with over 1,000 local students invited and nearly 50 student volunteers. BooLand will have a variety of Halloween fun and games including trick or treating, a photo booth, apple and cookie decorating, face painting, a raffle, snacks, as well as other fun activities.

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. What is Play Streets?

Haunted Trail & Falloween @ Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah.

If you dare, wind through the dark shadows of the haunted woods, where zombies roam free. The Park Ranger will guide you into the graveyard, beneath ancient oak trees cloaked in Spanish moss. Keep close together and perhaps you will be safe from the ghosts and ghouls that drift through the trees, when the moonlight is blacked out by looming clouds and fog.

What is even better than going to a Haunted Trail? Getting to be the person scaring everyone on the Haunted Trail. Dress up as a zombie and scare visitors. Skidaway Is. The Campsite Decorating Contest will be judged during the trick-or-treating event. Winners will receive Skidaway Island State Park prizes. Uncle Maddio’s Halloween Costume Contest will be 6-8 PM Thurs. Oct 31. Stop by on your way to or from trick-or-treating. The first place costume contest winner will receive a large pizza, second place winner will receive a medium pizza and third place winner will receive an individual pizza. All contest participants will receive a free kids’ meal coupon.

Since the contest runs from 6-8 PPM and that would make it a little difficult to judge, the Uncle Maddio’s team will take pictures of all contestants and upload an album to their Facebook page here. People can vote by commenting or liking. Voting will end on Nov. 10 to give everyone a chance to vote.

FREE kids’ bike races on Oct 26 & Oct 27 as part of the Savannah Superprestige Cyclocross Weekend at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler.

Kids are invited to take part in bike races which will be a short lap on the track. Ribbons for all.

Kids’ bike race will be 3:45 PM on Sat. Oct. 26 & 11:45 AM on Sun. Oct. 27 in between adult bike races at the track. Age range group for the kids’ bike races is up to age 9 at no charge. At age 10, children are required to race in juniors category.
