Charter Schools in Savannah-Chatham County  

January 2017 is the time to plan for which school you want your child to attend for the 2017-2018 school year. The application process is open for Savannah-Chatham public school choice programs as well as for most Savannah-area charter schools.

Elementary and middle school charter schools in Savannah-Chatham area have a separate application process and different deadlines than Savannah-Chatham County public school choice programs. Contact the charter school of your choice for more detailed information on their application process.

Savannah-Area Charter School Application Deadlines for 2017-2018 School Year

Oglethorpe Charter School (Middle School, 6th-8th grades) Application process is open. The application can be printed from Oglethorpe Charter School Web site or picked up from the school. Deadline: All applications must be hand-delivered to the school by Jan. 17, 2017

Free, lottery-funded Pre-K for 2017-2018 school year

The free, state-funded Pre-K at some Savannah-Chatham public schools is open to all children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 residing in Chatham County.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has 60 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes with additional classes at Coastal Empire Montessori.  See the list of Savannah-Chatham public schools that offer the free Pre-K here.

Pre-K applications for the free, lottery-funded Pre-K programs for 2017-18 at Savannah-Chatham County public schools will be available online here starting Feb. 21 2017 until March 6 2017. Applications & required documents are due March 7 2017. The lottery will be April 4 2017.

The deadline to submit required documents to one of the selected schools is March 7, 2017. Applications cannot be processed without these documents.

This free, state-funded Pre-K is open to all children who are 4 years old on or by Sept. 1. Details here. 

Some Savannah private preschools and childcare facilities also offer the state-funded, free Pre-K program and have different application deadlines. Please contact those facilities for their application deadlines.

The Habersham School – illumination 2016

In the darkest hour of the middle ages, when famine and plague and war had brought many people, groups and budding nations to their lowest point, a Latin phrase, born out of Christian hope, emerged. Post Tenebras Lux: After darkness, Light.

Congratulations St. Andrew’s School on Wilmington Is. on receiving a grant for a garden program.

St. Andrew’s School was awarded $350 in grant funding from the Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) Foundation to be utilized for the school’s outdoor learning space & garden project. The learning space, created four years ago, continues to expand into an area where students work & play on a daily basis.

The garden area has been used to grow vegetables for the school’s lunch provider; teach students agriculture concepts; promote good nutrition & exercise. The additional dollars from the GFB Foundation will be used to expand the hands-on learning opportunities across all disciplines.

Additional activities planned for the area include a water wall, a pulley & bucket system, a stone sculpture center plus enhanced seating for classroom discussions.

St. Andrew’s School – a private school on Wilmington Is. in Savannah – recently received recognition as one of the most challenging high schools in the nation. This marks the fifth year in a row for the Savannah private school to receive the honor.

The Washington Post’s Jay Mathews has been ranking the most challenging schools in the country for 18 years.
