Savannah Children’s Museum invites the public to attend Bug Fest 2019, the annual family-friendly celebration buzzing with bug themed crafts, activities and workshops. The event will be held Saturday, May 25, 10AM-2PM at the Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.

This year, attendees can learn about the importance of bees and other natural pollinators with the Coastal Empire Beekeepers Assn., enter the Insectarium with Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus Entomology class, meet some friendly reptiles from Georgia Reptile Society, while learning about their healthy diet of bugs, build your own insects with Snapology of Savannah, discover bug biology and how insects play a vital role in Savannah’s waterways with Ogeechee Riverkeeper and enjoy bug-themed Zumbini with Desirae Suggs, a licensed Zumbini instructor, on our stage at 11 am and 1 pm.

Savannah Children’s Museum educators will also be delivering programs and activities, such as the eat-a-bug club, insect activities and many other creepy crawly programs throughout the day. Prowl food truck and Savannah Square Pops will be on Sugar Beet Bluff picnic area, just outside of Savannah Children’s Museum’s entrance with delicious food and ice pops available for purchase.

The Coastal Heritage Society vendor cart will also be on-site with bug related merchandise for purchase.

Admission to Bug Fest is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $8 for all guests 18 months and older. This event is FREE for Coastal Heritage Society members. The day of Bug Fest, there will be a special $90 membership promotion for guests who sign up to become members on-site.

Celebrate World Oceans Day @ UGA Marine Education Center And Aquarium on Skidaway Is. in Savannah, Sat. June 8 2019, 11AM-4PM

People of all ages are invited in celebration of World Oceans Day on June 8 at the UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island. Throughout the day, visitors can tour behind the scenes at the aquarium, encounter reptiles, interact with horseshoe crabs and learn about the incredible animals of Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary.  Learn how to catch blue crabs on the dock behind the aquarium & interact with marine life found on the Georgia coast during this family-friendly event

Summer in Savannah means time for free spray pools in some Savannah parks.

Kids can enjoy a cool water experience at the park under adult supervision.

Ellis Square @ Barnard and West Congress streets next to City Market in downtown Savannah also has an interactive fountain where kids can play in the water (Ellis Square also has restrooms & a variety of seating options) No set hours for when the fountain is on and there’s no city-provided adult supervision like there is at the fountains listed above.

For each scoop served, Moose Tracks will donate $1 to The Salvation Army of Savannah in hopes of raising $10,000 in just four hours to help fund ongoing community projects.

Sign up your little swimmer for a summer swim league for Summer 2019.

Savannah Coastal Swim League (SCSL) offers competitive youth swimming in Savannah/Chatham County, Wilmington Island and Pooler during early summer.

The league consists of eight teams, encompassing more than 800 swimmers, including: Grand Lake Sharks, Isle of Hope Sharks, Landings Lightning Bolts, Mayfair Marlins, Savannah Golf Club Stingrays, Savannah Quarters Sailfish, Savannah Yacht Club Commodores and Wilmington Park Barracudas.

Some of the teams do not require club membership to participate.

Swimmers of all levels are welcome.

The league includes regular practices as well as meets during which various teams compete against each other in late May, June & early July. The 2019 Meet Schedule is posted here.
