From October 1 through 6, teaching artists of Project 440 will introduce young people to Classical Music via community engagement programs, workshops and in-school residencies.

Founded by three Savannah natives, including Executive Director Joseph Conyers, Assistant Principal Bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Project 440 works to strengthen communities through music by educating future generations of musicians and music enthusiasts.

The Project 440 team will perform in eight library branches as part of the Live Oak Public Libraries MusicAlive! Series, present workshops in instrumental instruction for local educational organizations and conduct residency activities at some local schools.

During these FREE MusicAlive! Inspiration Station Discover program, kids will learn how a simple idea can inspire an entire musical composition! Take this rare opportunity to find out what it’s like to blow your own glass. Work with Savannah glass artist Jonathan Poirier at his Drayton Glass studio and take home your creation. The class will provide students ample hands on experience with classic techniques such as shaping glass, and creating basic forms. By the end of the workshop, students will have made paperweights, ornaments and vessels.

Glass artist Kristin Fulford will offer a two-day, six hour workshop on warm glass fusing. Students will learn techniques for manipulating color and texture. No previous experience in fused glass is necessary. Each student will produce 4” tiles, a bowl or plate, and a small panel.
