Tiffany Drabek Studio Pottery Camps Savannah 2013 Kids Pottery and Sculpture Classes & Summer Camp Offerings @ Tiffany Drabek Studio in Ardsley Park, Savannah

Take a sculpture or pottery class to learn something new…or continue a flourishing hobby! Classes are centrally located @ Tiffany Drabek Studio in Midtown Savannah.

The sculpture classes include instruction in different hand building techniques such as coiling, slab work, pinching, carving, and bas-relief designs. The pottery instruction involves learning how to center the clay on the wheel, how to make plates, bowls and cylinders, and how to attach handles and make surface designs. At the end of the session children will apply either underglaze paints or glazes to complete their work with a splash of color. All work will be finished with a gloss glaze and fired.

The fees include all materials and firings. The work will be available for pick up after all of the firings have been done. Please call or email Tiffany with any questions or to register. To complete registration, please send a $20 deposit to Tiffany Drabek to the address below. About Tiffany Drabek: Tiffany is a local potter and ceramic sculptor. She has a BA in Art and French from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and has been working in her medium since graduation in Dec. ’91. In Savannah, she has been teaching clay classes to adults and children since 1999, and she has specifically taught home school students pottery, sculpture, and art history since 2001. She offers pottery birthday parties throughout the year to children as well as adults. She home schools her three boys and is the Director of the Classical Conversations Savannah home school community.

Summer 2013 Kids' Pottery Camp at Savannah's Clay SpotPottery Camps are designed for all ages of kids. Weeks alternate between a younger group and an older group and there is a special preschool age camp happening Aug. 12-16.

Each child will get a great introduction to pottery wheel and projects are designed to include both wheel throwing and hand building construction techniques.

If parents register beginning now until May 1st, they get a 15% discount. If parents register for both a Pottery Camp at Savannah’s Clay Spot and a Summer Art Camp at Scribble Art studio they can get a 20% discount off of each camp. Only one discount applies.

Visit the site where plantations from the 1790s through the 1860s operated and where Civil War activity took place. Watch archaeologists uncover the past. Free tours are 90 minutes each, Tuesday through Saturday from March 19 through May 11, 2013. Tour times are 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Reservations for parties of 10 or less are not required. ABOUT FLANNERY O’CONNOR:
Flannery O’Connor was born in Savannah, Georgia on March 25, 1925 and is the author of the acclaimed novels Wise Blood and The Violent Bear It Away, as well as 32 short stories and numerous essays. Perhaps best known as a pioneering Southern gothic author who often wrote about morally flawed characters, O’Connor remains an important voice in American literature. She lived in Savannah until 1938 and drew inspiration from her childhood experiences in Georgia’s First City until her death from lupus in Milledgeville, Georgia on August 3, 1964. She received the National Book Award for Fiction posthumously in 1972 for The Collected Stories of Flannery O’Connor.

Free passes @ Live Oak Public Libraries to Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta

Now you can check out a free Center for Puppetry Arts museum pass at Live Oak Public Library branches in Savannah, Effingham & Hinesville.

Thanks to a new partnership between the Center for Puppetry Arts and Georgia’s Public Libraries, if you have a valid library card, you can now check out the Center’s new “Passport to Puppetry” at all Live Oak Public branches.

The “Passport to Puppetry” is valid for up to four free museum admissions—a potential savings of up to $33 per family. Parties with children must include at least one adult.

If you haven’t checked out the Center for Puppery Arts yet, the museum is a real treat, providing educational fun with more than 350 puppets from around the world as well as fun, unique puppet show performances.

The museum at the Center for Puppetry Arts is open Tuesdays through Sundays with hours varying upon day and programming. In addition to four free admissions, the “Passport to Puppetry” also entitles library patrons to attend a performance at the Center and/or participate in a Create-a-Puppet Workshop at a 25% discount, when space is available.

Spring Break Art Camp 2013The City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now accepting registrations for its Spring Break Art Camp, which takes place April 1 – 5, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Cultural Affairs, located at 9 West Henry St. The full-day camp will offer children ages 5-12 an introduction to painting, ceramics, mixed media and performing arts in age-appropriate group settings.

The fee of $135 includes all materials and is limited to the person listed on the registration form. Full payment is due upon enrollment. Credit cards, checks, money orders and cash are accepted.

Space is limited and advance registration is required. Children 5 years of age must currently be enrolled in kindergarten. Registration forms are available online at www.savannahga.gov/arts .

4 to 7 Year Old Mini Masters art class starts Feb. 16.

Ages 4-7 Saturdays, 10-11:30 am, February 16–March 9, 2013

Members $100 | Non-members $125

Each day of this five-week Saturday class will explore art fundamentals through exploration of different works from master artist such as Botticelli, Il Parmigianino, and Niccolo Pisano. Each day students will view, discuss, and recreate the great works form the Uffizi collection. In the studio students will make their own paint, work with gold leaf, paint their own family portraits, and more. All materials provided.

Savannah Affordable Visual Arts Classes & Workshops Now Registering including Parent & Child workshops

City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session II classes and workshops. Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Sessions began Feb. 18 and run through March 29 and are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs located at 9 W. Henry St., Savannah.

Three week and six-week classes are available, as well as weekend workshops. Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, fibers, jewelry, painting and drawing.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. Class schedule and registration forms are available online by clicking here or by calling (912) 651-6783.
