Savannah Classical Academy introduces new Pre-Kindergarten program

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024-25 school year for Savannah Classical Academy Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) . Click here to learn more about the program and submit your application.

Savannah Classical Academy’s new tuition-based Pre-K program for the 2024-25 school year starts August 1, 2024 and runs for 36 weeks, mirroring SCA’s K-12 program. This program will offer students an opportunity to benefit from classical education and experience SCA’s core values earlier in their schooling.

To be eligible for the 2024-2025 school year, children must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2024.

The SCA program is not a free Georgia Lottery funded program. Cost is $175 per week.

Students enrolled in Pre-K will have priority enrollment into the following school year’s kindergarten class, which is available free of charge to any student living in Chatham County.

The Little Acorn Academy is a full-day program for 3-year-olds. The Little Acorn Academy is a program where students will learn their ABCs, colors, and how to spell, giving students an advantage when they enroll in a pre-k program. Jostens, the leading producer of yearbooks and student-created content, today announced that
St. Andrew’s yearbook program has achieved the Jostens 2023 National Yearbook Program of Excellence
Award at the Gold Level.

The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills
such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies literacy.

Reese Young ’23 and Claire Fleming ’24 served as editors of the award-winning yearbook under the
direction of Scott Searcy, St. Andrew’s yearbook adviser.

The yearbook staff included: seniors Stella Bowen, Celia Cerbone, Lauren Hylan, Jonah Hobbie, Carter Kleinpeter, Sarah Koegler, Caroline Kurinij, Lizzie Lank, Kaleb Lofton, Jillian Rachlin, Ava Stillwagon, and Chesley Strain; and juniors Sara Sergi and Richaard Williams.

“I am so proud of this group of students and the many hours they put into producing a memorable
yearbook for the St. Andrew’s community,” said Searcy. “As a team, we reexamined every aspect of the
book with the goal of presenting a fresh perspective for all areas of campus life.”

The award was presented to the St. Andrew’s yearbook program for achieving defined criteria in the
following categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully
managing the yearbook creation process.

268 students waitlisted for Pre-K @ Savannah-Chatham public schools

Scoring a coveted spot on the already difficult to get in free, lottery-funded pre-K @ Savannah-Chatham public schools has become even more difficult.

SCCPSS Academic Affairs department presented the following update on Pre-K enrollment at the April 12 2023 Informal School Board meeting:

1,483 Pre-K applications were submitted for 2023-24 school year – an increase of 343 applications over last year – and 1,140 students were accepted.

30 PreK sites including Oatland Island, Woodville, and Windsor Forest High School
• 1,483 Pre-K applications submitted for 2023-24 school year
• Increase of 343 applications from last year
• 1,140 students accepted for SY 2024 with 268 waitlisted

About Georgia Pre-K

The Georgia Pre-K Program provides a 6.5-hour instructional day, 5 days a week, 180 days a year at no cost to families. You must apply to be considered for a spot in a Pre-K program. 

Each Pre-K provider sets its own application processes, registration deadlines, and selection criteria. Some may include lotteries, wait lists, and other processes to accept students.

To participate, children must be four years of age on or before September 1 of the school year that they want to attend Georgia’s Pre-K. 

Pre-K is voluntary, not compulsory.
