Free Savannah event: Constitution Day @ Georgia Historical Society

Constitution Day @ Georgia Historical Society in Savannah

You are invited to the Georgia Historical Society Research Center in Savannah on Constitution Day on Fri. Sept. 16 2022 to view a draft of the Constitution along with other colonial-era pieces from the collection.

View Abraham Baldwin’s original draft copy of the US Constitution. One of only a few still in existence, the draft includes the handwritten margin notes of Baldwin, one of Georgia’s signers of the Constitution of 1787.

This treasure of the GHS collection, along with a recently conserved Revolutionary War-era drum and other unique objects and documents highlighting Georgia’s role in the development and evolution of our national story will be on display Fri. Sept. 16 2022.

The event consists of a self-paced tour with guidance for pre-registered K-12 groups provided by GHS staff and includes a scavenger hunt activity for students. The tour will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

GHS welcomes public, private, and home school groups grades fifth-twelfth to attend. All groups must be accompanied by teacher or parent chaperones. Time slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis starting at 9AM.-2PM on Fri. Sept. 16, 2022. Any group containing more than ten students will need to reserve a time slot.

To reserve a time slot or set up a time to talk with a GHS staff member, please contact Lisa Landers at llanders@georgiahistory.com or 912-651-2125, ext. 152.
