Celebrate the end of the hot Southern summer by focusing on garden-related projects, themes and plants at Autumn Gardenfest @ Coastal Georgia Botanical Garden in Savannah.

Fall (especially November) is the best time to plant trees, shrubs and many perennials in our region. Guest speakers this year will address bird migration, beekeeping and gardening for butterflies, among others, and garden-related items are sold on the Event Field by local vendors.

Fri. Oct. 21: Noon-4PM
Sat. Oct. 22: 9AM-3PM

Cost: $5 parking fee charged per vehicle.

Food for sale on Sat. Oct. 22 by Kay Heritage Big Bon Pizza food truck.

Throughout the day on Saturday, “Mosquito Patrol” educational program will help homeowners and children understand how to naturally control mosquitoes.

GardenFest 2016 activities for children include the following. Most classes are free but the fairy garden class will have a fee to participate.

9:30AM: Dragons & Damsels in the Roots & Shoots Classroom
Students will be read a story about dragonflies and damselflies and then make a dragonfly magnet to take home. Free
10:30AM: Fairy Garden Program in the Annex (Sandy Tyler)
Students will have the chance to see the micro world of fairy gardens and make one of their own. This is a fee-based class.
11:30AM: Make a Pinecone Bird Feeder in the Roots & Shoots Classroom
What do you get when you have a pine-cone, peanut butter and bird seed? A birdfeeder! Enjoy making this all natural bird feeder to take home. This WILL BE A MESSY CLASS so expect a bit of peanut butter on the shirt, in the hair, etc. Free
12:30PM: Butterfly Watching at the Pollinator Garden/or Sunflower House from Sprouts
Join Ms. Freya at the pollinator garden to talk about butterflies and watch them close-up with our binoculars. Free
1:30PM: Roots & Shoots in the Roots & Shoots Classroom
A garden favorite with students and teachers, join us in the classroom for Roots & Shoots, a class on the life-cycle of plants. Students will plant something to take home. Free

Most classes are free but the fairy garden class will have a fee to participate.
