Teen Jewelry, Children’s Fibers and Watercolor among new offerings.

City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session I classes and workshops. Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Sessions began Jan. 7 and run through Feb.15 and are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs S.P.A.C.E. studios located at 9 W. Henry Street.

Three week and six week classes are available, as well as weekend workshops. Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, fibers, jewelry, painting and drawing.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. We love kids’ art birthday parties at Scribble Art Studio in Savannah.

My son just had his 6th BD party at the studio, a Willy-Wonka themed art party that Scribble artists Carrie Christian and Tara Garrigan made into a smashing success. The best part of Scribble’s art birthday parties is kids get so much out of them. You leave with armfuls of creations that kids can hang on their walls, continue to paint or draw on, or in our case, hang on our Christmas trees. These creations prompt memories and discussion about the party long after the balloons have deflated.

Scribble’s artists never stop teaching during the party. They are zipping back & forth bringing in the new project & cleaning up the finished ones, but also are able to stop and answer a child’s question about how to do something or they just pause patiently, with cupcake clean-up in hand, and offer a child a tip on how to improve on the task at hand.

I merely gave Carrie the party theme. She & Tara took that theme and created a Willy Wonka painting for all the kids to complete; adorable cupcake and lollipop name tags for the kids to decorate & complete; and lively candy hunt. They hung oversized pretend candies and lollipops from the studio ceiling and had an ornament-making playdough session, which kids were able to decorate then bake at home. In between, the kids had cupcakes and sang happy birthday and drew on a huge canvas on the floor.

The Savannah Children’s Choir will present their annual holiday concert, titled the “Holiday Radio Hour” on Sunday, December 9 at 4 p.m. at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1008 E. Henry Street (corner of Waters Avenue).

Studio 2424 announces the grand opening of MusikGarten family music sessions for toddlers and babies at the Averitt Center in Statesboro starting in 2013, in addition to the classes offered in Savannah.

A popular family-friendly aspect of the annual Telfair Art Fair is the FREE Children’s Art fair, a free event taking place Saturday, November 10th from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Telfair Art Fair promotes the mission of developing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the arts and serving as a dynamic cultural center connecting people of all ages and backgrounds. For more information, please visit http://www.telfair.org  .

Bastille Metal Works, the premier manufacturer of custom cast zinc and pewter furnishings in North America, will be sponsoring the Telfair Museums’ Children’s Art Fair in the Square. The Children’s Art Fair in the Square is a part of Telfair Museums’ 18th Annual Telfair Art Fair, which will take place November 10 and 11 in downtown Savannah and Telfair Square. This year’s Art Fair theme, Arte Al Fresco, is inspired by the museum’s upcoming exhibition Offering of the Angels: Paintings and Tapestries from the Uffizi Gallery. The exhibition will feature Italian masterworks from the Renaissance through the Baroque period, and will open on December 7.

The annual Children’s Art Fair is the perfect way to introduce children to Telfair Museums while providing a fun and educational outlet for creating art.  Activities  in the square will include hands-on art projects, such as face painting and Renaissance crafts, plus live performances by Portman’s Music Children’s Group, New Horizons, Savannah Arts Academy’s Skylite Jazz Band, and many more. This year, Telfair Museums will host the WCWM? (what can we make?) inside the education studios in the Jepson Center during the event, which will take place from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, November 10^th.

The outdoor Art Fair will feature approximately 120 artists displaying and selling works in all mediums throughout the weekend, including painting, printmaking, drawing/pastel, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber, and mixed media. More than $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top artists in their respective fields.

You’re invited to Savannah Children’s Theatre’s Once Upon a Time Auction and Costume Gala, Sat. Nov. 3 at 6:30 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall,  3 West Liberty Street in downtown Savannah.

This festive evening is filled with wonderful auction items, a delicious Italian dinner and a cash bar.
