Telfair Academy Guild presents the inaugural Telfair in Bloom, a festival of art and flowers! Museum curators will choose paintings, sculptures, and works of decorative art from the permanent collection. Designers will interpret the art by creating floral arrangements that will remain on display during the entire four-day event, which includes an opening party, a lecture by a nationally-recognized speaker followed by a luncheon , plus additional lectures, demonstrations, and a children’s workshop.

Local cinema lecturer Keller Jones will share her insights and enthusiasm for flowers in film in a presentation, Magnolias, Roses and Dahlias: The Power of Flowers in Film. Children’s activities for young budding artists will also be going on throughout the day.

Pottery camp at Savannah’s Clay Spot is a unique opportunity for children to work as actual artist in a professional ceramic studio. The 21st Annual Savannah Asian Cultural Festival will bring the continent of Asia to coastal Georgia, celebrate the rich diversity of the area and feature unique cultures, cuisine, live performances and more.

20th Anniversary Celebration of Asian cultural arts featuring live music and dance from seven Asian countries

This special 20th anniversary event will be opened by Linda Bleicken, President of Armstrong State University, and by dignitaries from the City of Savannah’s government officials and staff from the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

The evening indoor performance on the Fine Arts Auditorium Stage will showcase Asia dances, martial arts and instrumental and vocal music with each performer dressed in traditional clothing from their home country.   In additional to using local performers of Asian heritage from China, India, The Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, we are excited to showcase the beautiful Chinese dances by Kaidi Li from New York City, Korean dancers with exotic costumes, and traditional Chinese music with the Erhu, an native instrument somewhat related to the violin. Another highlight will be performances by the very popular Taiko Japanese Drummers who based based in Tampa, Florida.  Closing out the performance will be the very popular Dragon dancers in Vietnamese style.

High school participation

High school students are encouraged to put their artistic skills to the test and experience the creative SCAD environment. High school students must register in advance of the festival to compete for Ex Libris gift cards. Contestants should review contest guidelines and start sketching out ideas in advance.

Group registration for high school students

If you are a high school teacher or administrator, you may register several high school students at one time to compete in the high school competition. Each student registered within your group will be assigned one square and receive one box of chalk. Squares will be judged individually.

Free family fun at Youth ArtsFest Sat. March 12 11AM-1PM at the Arts Center, followed by ISCA’s Rising Stars Youth Talent Competition.

During the Festival, students and their families can enjoy arts and crafts projects, dance and drama workshops for $5, refreshments and the Promising Picassos youth art exhibition.

Several arts and crafts projects will be available ongoing throughout the festival, and are offered free or with a small donation. In addition, 50 minute dance workshops in the black box and drama workshops in the Bank of America room will be offered for just a $5 fee, and spaces will be on a first come first served basis. Sign-ups for these workshops will begin approximately 15 minutes prior to each session.

Juneteenth is the oldest celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Free and open to the public, this annual festival features live performances and hands-on art activities for all ages, celebrating Savannah’s history and Gullah Geechee heritage. The festival begins with an interactive performance by Jamal Toure and other local storytellers, followed by demonstrations by traditional artists throughout the region. Children can experiment with crafts and try their hand at a variety of artmaking projects. A special highlight of the afternoon includes a live concert by reunited members of the Gospelaires, a legendary a cappella vocal group from Pin Point, offering a rare treat to the celebration.

This Free Family Day gives you a chance to glimpse some of these amazing works in the historic Telfair Academy, featuring master artists such as Rembrandt and Whistler. We love that the Coastal Heritage Society, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Coastal Empire, has started a new hands-on art education program for children who are receiving medical care at The Children’s Hospital at Memorial Health.

This program for pediatric patients is called “Carts with Heart.”

The program will take place regularly at The Children’s Hospital at Memorial Health and the family room at the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a place for families to rest, re-charge, and interact. Each art education program will be geared towards children between the ages of 4 and 12 and the anticipated number to be served throughout the year will be approximately 3,000 people or more.

Savannah Children’s Museum educators will lead academic art activities from a mobile cart for child-patients and their families, providing an opportunity for these children to continue their education through hands-on, creative activities while receiving medical treatment.

The goal is to alleviate stress for children and their families by providing quality time together that is not focused on the child’s illness.

“Carts with Heart” is provided through generous support from the Arts Ashore Legacy Fund grant through The Savannah Community Foundation.

You & your child can get your hands dirty in a Piggy Pottery workshop in Savannah.

The Piggy Pottery Saturday workshop 10AM-1PM March 26 is one of many art workshops & classes offered by The City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs.

Class will use basic hand building techniques to make unique sculptures for ages 12+ with a parent or 17+ without a parent.

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers &  astonishing stagecraft.

The cast is comprised of 74 incredibly talented 3rd-12th grade students (selected by audition), a production team, and 50 plus parent & student volunteers.
