FREE Savannah Asian Cultural Festival 2016, April 15-16

Armstrong State University and the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs present the 2016 Savannah Asian Cultural Festival on April 15th and 16th.

All events will take place at Armstrong’s campus at 11935 Abercorn St. in Savannah, 31419.

The 21st Annual Savannah Asian Cultural Festival will bring the continent of Asia to coastal Georgia, celebrate the rich diversity of the area and feature unique cultures, cuisine, live performances and more.

Friday, April 15

7:30 p.m. ♦ Armstrong Fine Arts Auditorium

20th Anniversary Celebration of Asian cultural arts featuring live music and dance from seven Asian countries

This special 20th anniversary event will be opened by Linda Bleicken, President of Armstrong State University, and by dignitaries from the City of Savannah’s government officials and staff from the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

The evening indoor performance on the Fine Arts Auditorium Stage will showcase Asia dances, martial arts and instrumental and vocal music with each performer dressed in traditional clothing from their home country.   In additional to using local performers of Asian heritage from China, India, The Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam, we are excited to showcase the beautiful Chinese dances by Kaidi Li from New York City, Korean dancers with exotic costumes, and traditional Chinese music with the Erhu, an native instrument somewhat related to the violin. Another highlight will be performances by the very popular Taiko Japanese Drummers who based based in Tampa, Florida.  Closing out the performance will be the very popular Dragon dancers in Vietnamese style.
