(Savannah Fall Festivals 2017) Isle of Hope Art & Music Fest

Isle of Hope Art and Music Fest 2017 Savannah Fall FestivalsEnjoy the annual Isle of Hope Art & Music Fest on historic Isle of Hope, Savannah on Sat. Oct. 21, 2017. The Art Show will be 10AM-5PM at the Isle of Hope Marina, Bluff Drive and Paxton Park.

Live music will be 10:30AM to 8PM at the Dockworks Stage at the Isle of Hope Marina, as well as 11AM and 4PM at the Shear Elegance Salon Acoustic Corner in Paxton Park.

More than 100 local Savannah area artists and vendors will be on the Isle of Hope Marina Pavilion, alongside Bluff Drive as well as Paxton Park. There will be a variety of jewelry, ceramics, watercolor and acrylic paintings, wood turning, fiber arts and more.

All artisans are local or from the greater Savannah area.

Live music performances at the Dockworks stage in Isle of Hope Marina by folk and blues performers The Brawner Boys, local favorite Savannah Songwriter Andrew Gill & Steven Gerard, new album release artist The Isaac Smith Band, Alternative Country band and GA Music Award/Georgia Country Award winners Lyn Avenue, and headliner Stewart & Winfield.

New to the festival this year: The Shear Elegance Salon Acoustic Corner in Paxton Park with talented entertainers Markus
Kuhlmann and Chyann Rose.

The Fest includes plenty of food in cooperation with the Savannah Food Truck Festival.

Fest activities include Mathnasium’s giant chess, connect 4 & Jenga in Paxton Park. There will also be a carnival booth with prize wheel and games; multiple corn hole stations; the annual Isle of Hope Baptist Church thrift sale, pumpkin patch and Halloween costume contest. Isle of Hope Elementary School will showcase their students’ STEAM accomplishments.

Choose from the edible plant, weekend waterway, or the marsh flora hike and enjoy an educational hike with the park naturalist and rangers. Edible plant and marsh flora hike are about 3 miles. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a 6-foot leash. $2 per person.

Candle Lantern Tour

Join us for our annual candlelight guided tours! Come see soldiers go about their evening duties and experience what life was like for those living on the Georgia coast during the Civil War. You’ll get to stop by our lovely barracks house for some sweet treats before being treated to an exclusive night-time firing of our cannon! Tours every half hour. $5-9 per person.

Let our rangers be your guides to the galaxy as we spend the evening gazing at the lunar landscape. We’ll be peering through our telescopes while learning about the real majesty of our galaxy. Involves a short half-mile hike. Visitors will meet our rangers at the front office before taking a trip to one of our many scenic spots. $2 per person.

Spread your wings and take a trip with us, as our rangers will be ready to be your guide into the wild world of bats. Join our rangers as we watch our flying friends take off over the setting sun! Blacksmithing & Civil War Medicine

It’s time to get fired up! Join our rangers as we show off both the fun and the challenges of blacksmithing! Then learn about some of the many tonics and remedies that doctors and surgeons of the past used to heal ailments and injuries during the Civil War. Fort admission required.

Registration is now open for Frogwarts annual Harry-Potter inspired event Sun. Oct. 15, 2017, hosted by Coastal Heritage Society in Savannah.

Frogwarts is Sun. Oct. 15, 11AM-3PM. Georgia State Railroad Museum and Savannah Children’s Museum will transform into a magical fall festival for a Harry Potter-themed day of fun

At Frogwarts, families are transported into a whimsical world at Frogwarts School of Magic. Classes include Potions, Symbology, Herbolgy, Care of Magical Creatures, and many more! This year’s studies will be filled with enchantment, excitement, and STEAM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) educational components, which help encourage critical thinking, creative problem solving, and experiential learning through each fun and engaging activity.

Classes will include Wand Making, Potions, Fortune Telling, Defense Against the Dark Arts: Glow in the Dark Fun!, Care of Magical Creatures with Georgia Reptile Society, Quill Writing, Herbology, Magic with Professor Zyto and Quidditch. Attendees can also take a ride on the Frogwarts Express, our steam locomotive.

Some of CHS community partners will also be leading workshops, including Snapology of Savannah with Harry Potter LEGO building, Oatland Island Wildlife Center leading magical activities and Savannah Stage Company with a cast of some of favorite Harry Potter characters. Leopold’s Ice Cream will also be on site with their sweet treats in Harry Potter inspired flavors.

Coastal Heritage Society members receive access to early registration, an express check-in line and priority boarding for the Frogwarts Express train ride.

The 10th Annual The Great Pumpkin Patch @ Holiday Farms  will be open for the 2017 season from Oct. 5-Oct. 31 2017 in nearby Ridgeland, SC, about a 1 hour from Savannah.

Spend a day on Holiday Farms enjoying: Jumppad, Bounce house, Haytona Speedway, Duck Race, Cow Milking, Steer Roping, Corn Grinding, Barnyard Zoo, Barrel Racing and, of course, a hayride to the pumpkin patch. And our personal favorite, Pigtucky Derby (pig races).

Savannah Halloween events: FREE Bat Spooktacular @ Savannah Coastal Refuges Complex

Join Nancy Owen from Gryphon Den Creatures of the Night for a presentation about the importance of a “spooky” but misunderstood creature: the bat on Sat. Oct. 28, 1-3PM @ Savannah Coastal Refuges Complex. 

Nancy’s program, “Creatures of the Night”, focuses on our Earth’s vital need for biodiversity. She will address the physical adaptations of nocturnal bats, human impacts on bat habitats, and the importance of bats as an insect predator in the lowcountry. Nancy will also have her Big Brown Bats, Batman and Radar, along for you to meet!

There will also be bat-themed arts and crafts available to take home.

No need to RSVP, and the event is FREE! If you like, you can make a donation to the Gryphon Den to help them with rehabilitation and education programming.

FREE Young Explorers Club

The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge hosts a preschoolers “Young Explorers Club” on the first Tuesday of each month.

The free, hour-long monthly program for 3-4 year-olds starts at 10AM on the first Tuesday of each month.  There will be story time, crafts, snacks, and take-home activities all about this month’s topic.

The next one is Oct. 3 2017, 10-11AM. Theme: Butterflies.

There are 15 spaces for children are open on a first-come, first-served basis. If more than 15 sign up, a second session will be added at 11:30AM.

Wilmington Island Farmers’ Market will partner with Southeastern Guide Dogs for Puppy Palooza on Sat. Sept. 30 2017, 9AM-1PM in Savannah.

Puppy Palooza is as a fundraiser for the Southeastern Guide Dogs: an association that raises, trains and provides lifetime care for service dogs. Patrons will have the opportunity to interact with adorable puppies at the kissing booth, the hug hub and selfie station. Owners are welcome to bring their own puppy for pampering and are encouraged to bid on a puppy product basket filled with items from their fur baby’s favorite local stores. Kids can cuddle with puppies during story time, create canine-themed crafts and accessorize with fun puppy tattoos.

Food will be available for sale including $1 hot dogs.

This event is free and open to the public.
