Telfair offers a free admission family day to Savannah and Chatham County residents to view the exhibition Sonya Clark: Finding Freedom and other current works on view.
The event will include take-home activities available for pickup as well as hands-on activity stations in the Jepson Center from 1–4PM, docent tours, and an artist demonstration.

Weekly Imagination Hour @ The Sandbox Children’s Museum on Hilton Head Is. features a staff chosen book and a related arts crafts project uniquely designed for parents and caregivers to enjoy one-on-one time with their children. Each week features a different story making it the perfect activity for you and your family.
Imagination Hour is geared for children age 5 and under; however, siblings and guests are always welcome to join! We invite you to stay and enjoy the museum following the program—the Learner’s Loft is home to the Sandbox’s very own library—the perfect spot to explore another story or bring a story to life with a puppet show. Local residents are invited to enjoy the exhibitions ‘Never Spoken Again’ at the Jepson Center and ‘Progressive Regression’ at the Telfair Academy, both in downtown Savannah, during Exploring Science in Art FREE FAMILY DAY, Sat. Aug. 21.
Family activities connecting science to art will be offered outdoors at the museums’ entrances, weather permitting, along with take-home art activities for children.
We are proud to present an evening of family- friendly films at Ships of the Sea Museum and Gardens. Our Family Movie Night brings back a stellar collection of hand-picked short films from our archives. Enjoy a summer night filled with movies that will entertain and inspire.

In recognition of World Ranger Day, join rangers @ Fort King George State Historic Site in Darien, Ga. for a fun, activity-packed day where any Junior Ranger can earn a Georgia “Go Do” patch on Sat. July 31 2021.
Traditionally, to earn one of these patches requires completing each category five times. This year if anyone participates in one of these activities on July 31 2021, they can earn the patch!
Fort King George is offering 2 programs with 2 patches. Complete a scavenger hunt through the Fort, collecting clues, and earn an Outdoor Fun patch. Or, help rangers create a flourishing colonial medicine garden and earn a Kids Care patch.

Lowcountry Celebration Park – which opened in December 2020 – includes Adventure Playground for kids, a discovery trail, pavilion and lawn for festivals, exercise stations, Wi-Fi, restrooms.
The new visitor center @ Skidaway Island State Park includes floor-to-ceiling windows to showcase the maritime forest and marsh plus birding from a screened porch; a 20-feet high giant ground sloth skeleton, a replica of an ancient fossil found within the park in 1822; nature exhibits including turtles and snakes; a gift shop is filled with clothing, toys, books, camping supplies, jewelry and local foods. The visitor center also includes meeting space, classroom space and staff offices.

Mohawk Lake Trail
The 17-acre lake (pictured above) located at 1132 Mohawk Street now has a new walking/jogging trail and dog park that opened in July 2021.
A roughly three-mile section of the proposed six-mile public Truman Linear Park Trail runs between Lake Mayer and East DeRenne Avenue, parallel to the Truman Parkway and Casey Canal. Part of the trail includes a boardwalk (pictured below) that runs through a woodsy section of Magnolia Park neighborhood. Learn more here.
Toddler Tuesday is a program for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program will meet at the picnic pavilion and will include: singing, fingerplay, a story, an encounter with one of our animals, and a take-home craft.
UPDATE: Cost for the program is $5 for children and $5 for adults.
Registration is required and there are a limited number of spaces so reserve early.
Registration is made online, but the program fees will be paid at the front booth on the day of, and not in advance, so please, if you know you won’t make your reservation, please call and cancel so organizers can open the space for someone on the waitlist.

Telfair Museums will mark Juneteenth 2021 with free admission to the Jepson Center, a free libation ceremony, and a free virtual lecture.
From 10AM-5PM Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, Savannah and Chatham County residents will receive free admission to the Jepson Center in partnership with the City of Savannah.
The free weekend features a libation ceremony at noon Sat. June 12 on the front steps of the museum led by local historians Vaughnette Goode-Walker and Jamal Toure.
Activity kits focusing on the Black experience and themes related to current exhibitions, including works by Savannah artist Sauda Mitchell, also will be distributed.
Juneteenth celebrates the beginning of the emancipation of enslaved Americans on June 19, 1865, by order of Union General Gordon Granger in Texas.
At 6PM Tues. June 15, Telfair will host its annual Juneteenth lecture with a virtual appearance by historian and author Anthony Cohen, whose book “Patrick & Me” chronicles his journey as a fourth-generation descendant of an enslaved man who escaped to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Drawing from an 1856 interview with his forbearer, Cohen carefully reconstructs the amazing life story of Patrick Sneed—a slave of African, Jewish, Irish, and Cherokee heritage—who fled from bondage in Savannah and later went on to fight in the Civil War. Telfair recently expanded its regular days and hours as it continues to pare back limitations enforced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. All three of Telfair’s sites—the Jepson Center, the Telfair Academy, and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters—now are open from 10AM-5PM on Tuesdays, in addition to Thursdays through Mondays. The museum remains closed on Wednesdays.
