Coming to Tybee Post Theater: Paleoanthropologist & National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence

Paleoanthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Lee Berger will present his story of one of the greatest fossil discoveries of the past half century, and of what it might mean for our understanding of human evolution at The Tybee Post Theater on Sun. Feb. 23, 2020.

Berger, with deep roots in Savannah and years on Tybee, led the expedition that discovered an unprecedented treasure trove of bones hidden deep within a South African cave that represents a new species of human ancestor.

He will present “The Dawn of Humanity,” a NOVA and National Geographic documentary that takes us on that mind-boggling journey deep into a pitch-dark hidden chamber that revealed the 1,500 bones that may help fill in a crucial gap in the fossil record and tell us how Homo, the first member of the human family, emerged from ape-like ancestors like the famous Lucy.
