Dance Theatre of Harlem Savannah Hilton Head Is. Bluffton Dance Theatre of Harlem Master Class: Calling all dancers ages 12 and older with intermediate or advanced dance experience!

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina mid-island on Hilton Head is hosting the acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem for two performances and a 90 minute master dance class.

The Master Class on Mon. Oct. 31 at 5:30PM will be taught by the company director, ballet master or a company member and emphasize focus, discipline and the classical technique practiced at Dance Theatre of Harlem.

This small art universe is a venue for imagination. Boost creativity and encourage art appreciation in the next generation of Savannah! Classes include homeschool tutoring & private art lessons.
Group Classes (Classes are limited to 4 students)
Parent & Me (Ages 3-4), 45 min. Install an outlet for how much FUN art is. Small projects and lessons that encourage a start in art.
The Fundamentals (Ages 5-8), 1 hr. Explore and learn about the artist’s toolbox. Presenting a collaborative environment with the goal to establish a foundation of basic skills for each artist.

Savannah art improv youth classes Fall 2016

Register now for The City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs Fall Visual Arts classes and Workshops.

Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens and adults in all skill levels.  Classes begin September 12 and run through October 21. All classes and workshops are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs studios, located at 9 W. Henry St.

Four and six week classes are available, as well as weekend workshops.  Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, printmaking and fibers.  New this session are Improv classes for youth and adults as well as Glass Beads and Jewelry, Printmaking Three Ways, Hand Embroidery, Mold Making, and Slipcasting.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required.  Credit cards are accepted.

Improv for Kids (6 Weeks) NEW

Tuesdays, September 13 – October 18, 3:30pm – 5:00pm
This six-week class introduces Savannah’s Improv Company (SiC) method to create improvised scenes based on audience suggestions. Students in “Intro to Improv” will participate in group games and exercises that help everyone remember how to play. The focus will be on having fun and learning how to start an improv scene. As a bonus, you’ll get to perform for friends and family during a recital after the six-week course concludes.

Join this class and explore the art of hand embroidery! All levels welcome to participate. This course will cover the fundamentals of hand embroidery, a variety of techniques and different stiches. Students will learn the basics of embroidery and decorate an item of their choice.

Hand Weaving (6 Weeks) NEW

Wednesdays, September 14 – October 19, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Learn to hand weave from start to finish! Students will learn how to create their own weaving board and will work with a variety of fiber materials. The course will cover basic hand weaving techniques on a cardboard loom and students to create a small bag, a stuffed animal, or a decorative pillow.

Portfolio Builder: Drawing Camp
Session A: ages 10–14, May 31–June 3, 9am–3pm

This four-day camp helps upper-elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills and begin the process of developing art portfolios. Students focus on measurement, proportion, perspective, and use of value to create volume and space. Master Artist Photography
Session A: ages 10–12, June 6–10, 9am–3pm

This intensive, weeklong program offers hands-on skills with both digital and manual cameras, exploring black-and-white photography, digital photography, and the basic functions of 35mm cameras. Instructors emphasize the advancements of digital media and Photoshop, while also covering conventional methods of film photography, including pinhole cameras, to supplement the experience. Using the documentary photography exhibition Elvis at 21 as inspiration, this program takes students on “location” shoots in the historic district and culminates with a reception and exhibition of their photographs in the Jepson Center. Register here. 

Raising STEAM: Technology, Art, and Electronics

This comprehensive STEAM camp allows young people to explore the artistic potential of technology. In this weeklong camp, students use a variety of technologies and methods to create art and express themselves. Students gain skills in 3D printing, Photoshop, and basic computer programming with Arduino microcontrollers. They also learn how to solder their own electronic noise toys, plus much more! This program culminates with a reception and exhibition of participants’ work in the Jepson Center. Register here.

Each day, this weeklong camp features a different local artist providing a unique lesson based on his or her medium of expertise. Lunch in Telfair Square (weather permitting), breaks and games in ArtZeum, and special tours of the galleries are all included. Full STEAM ahead! In this weeklong camp, students design and build their own videogames! Using open source game-making software, young adults learn the basics of computer programming from scratch, while also getting the chance to invent worlds, create characters, and play games. Portfolio Builder: Youth Drawing: Session 1

This class is designed to help upper-elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills and begin the process of developing a portfolio. In Drawing I, students will focus on measurement, proportion, and perspective, with some practice portraiture and sketching from clothed models. Affordable Winter 2016 Savannah kids art workshops include clay classes & more

articles_1 Savannah art classes The City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session 1 Visual Art classes and Workshops for the 2016 calendar year.

These are wonderful, affordable day and evening sessions for children, teens and adults in all skill levels.

Participants can explore ceramics, raku, metals, casting, enameling, fused glass, drawing, basket weaving in one and two-day workshops and multi-week classes.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. Class schedule and registration forms are available online here  or by calling (912) 651-6783.

Classes and workshops begin Jan. 11 and continue through Feb. 20, 2016.

Festive Mask Making

Come transform yourself into any creature you’d like! In this two hour workshop, students will learn how to make a festive mask out of felt! Basic sewing and embroidery techniques will be covered.

Festive Fall Ornamental Wreath

Come for the first of a three part seasonal wreath series! In this workshop, students will learn basic flower design, bow making and ornamental wreath techniques for a festive fall creation.

Raku

This ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique in which 1800° glowing red hot works are removed from the kiln and placed into a reduction chamber filled with combustibles is sure to inflame and inspire. Personal bisque fired works can be glazed and fired. Pieces will be available for those who want to participate.

Youth Plein Air Painting Class

Ages: 10–16

Students will build miniature oil painting kits and use them to explore techniques of value and color blocking to create fast plein air paintings. Set out to experience and document the beauty of Savannah armed only with a cigar-box “easel” containing everything you need, from paints to brushes and canvas. This class is perfect for new painters as well as the experienced artist interested in new working methods. Let’s go old-school like the Master Impressionists and take to the open fall air. Join us as we observe the world in the natural light and paint Savannah’s many colorful historical squares and sites.
