“Mental health should be one of the biggest priorities for everyone in the season,” SouthCoast Health General Physician Dr. Keith Cobb stated. “But it’s vital to keep moving forward and progressing with our lives and our mental health. Just because it’s the holiday doesn’t mean your needs should take a back seat.”

Savannah Public Ice-Skating Schedule

Public skating has returned to the Savannah Civic Center’s MLK Arena – courtesy of Ghost Pirates Ice and the City of Savannah.

Savannah public ice-skating sessions kicked off earlier this month and will continue into December 2022 including the following sessions:

7-9PM Fri & Sat. Dec. 9-10; 1-3PM Sat-Sun. Dec. 10-11 2022.

After-school public skating Tues & Thurs. Dec. 13 & 15 3-5PM.

Fri. Dec. 16 7-9PM

Sat. Dec. 17 2-4PM; 5-7PM; 8-10PM.

Sun. Dec. 18, 2-4PM; 5-7PM.

Additional sessions are expected to be added.

The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home’s annual holiday reading of “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote will be an outdoor event with hot cider and holiday treats @ The Old Dairy in Savannah.

Celebrate the holiday season with hot cider and holiday treats and enjoy local actress Maggie Hart reading “A Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote. This is an outdoor event; guests are encouraged to bring a folding chair and blankets to stay cozy. Enjoy funny and oh-so-Southern afternoon storytelling session.

SouthCoast Health presents Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, Savannah

Free kids race is at 8AM; Diaper Dash at 8:15AM; Main 4-mile race at 8:30AM

SouthCoast Health presents 14th annual United Way Turkey Trot in Savannah on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2022 at Daffin Park.

SouthCoast Health has been the title sponsor of the event since it started back in 2009.

The FREE Kids-K kicks off the tradition at 8AM. This 400-yard race is perfect for children eight years old or younger, and it’s free with no registration required. At 8:15 AM the Diaper Dash will start, with children ages two and under running 40 feet.

The main run and walk of the 4-mile course begins at 8:30 AM. 

After the races, participants are invited to a post-race awards ceremony hosted at Daffin Park where they can enjoy food and beverages. The ceremony will include prizes for the top three overall male and female racers, the top three male and female racers in each age group, and additional awards such as the largest family, runner from farthest away, most senior, most junior, and best costume. 

Registration: $35 from now until Nov. 23rd. It increases on race day. Register here

Lowcountry Celebration Park, one of Hilton Head Island’s newest parks that reflects some of its coastal, historical and environmental attributes, was recognized with an Award of Excellence for its design.

The South Carolina Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects presented the award, which is the highest honor it bestows, at its annual conference held recently in Greenville, South Carolina. Chris Darnell, an Urban Designer with the Town of Hilton Head Island, and Wood and Partners, the firm that designed the park, accepted the award.

Kids are out of school and want them to be active during the Thanksgiving Break?  Want to give your child a “taste”  of the golf without wasting time and money to play?

The A-SWING Junior Golf Academy is hosting a two day camp for kids age kindergarten thru 5th graders. 

The camp is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21 & 22 2022.  The camp runs from 9AM – 12:30PM each day and lunch is provided.

FREE Holiday Tree Lighting @ Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center, Dec. 1, 5:30-7PM. Kick off the holiday season with Telfair’s annual tree lighting celebration. A hot cocoa bar, homemade cookies, and children’s art activities will take place in the Jepson Center’s Richard and Judy Eckburg Atrium. The holiday tree will be on view until Jan. 9, 2023. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer opens Dec. 2 and runs three weekends @ Savannah Children’s Theatre. There will be a Holiday shop and a cup of hot cocoa and a cookie is included with the ticket price. Tickets are available now. Tickets

Free Tybee Christmas Parade, Dec. 2 6-9PM. Parade starts at 6th Street and moves down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street.

FREE Savannah’s Lighted Christmas Parade, Sat. Dec. 10.  The parade begins at the west end of River Street at 5:30PM and continues to the East end, then winds its way through downtown Savannah. The traditional route is subject to change this year due to ongoing construction downtown. New route TBA. Free parking will be available in all City parking garages December 9-11. FREE Christmas Whoville Celebration in Savannah City Market (formerly called Christmas for Kids Celebration), 1-4PM Sun. Dec. 11. City Market turns Whoville for the afternoon. Get Grinched (with hair and makeup). Meet Father Christmas and take a picture with him in a carriage. Plus a performance of How The Dancing Grinch Stole Christmas. Free & open to the public.
