St. Andrew’s School  sophomore Eden Young won the regional National English Speaking Union’s Shakespeare Competition last month in Savannah.

Eden took on the role of Queen Katherine for her monologue from Henry VIII and also performed Sonnet 146. Since January, she has been working on the two Shakespeare pieces with SAS theatre teacher Ms. Maggie Hart. Eden now receives an all expense paid trip to the National Competition in New York City this April. A panel of judges will select the top three performances.

The purpose of the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition is to help young people develop critical thinking skills, improve public speaking abilities, and increase his/her self-confidence through reading, analysis, and performance of Shakespeare works.
