For almost 100 years, soldiers defended Savannah from invasion while stationed on Salter’s Island, the location of Fort Jackson. The strategic importance of this location was vividly illustrated during the American Revolutionary War and Fort James Jackson played a crucial role during the War of 1812 and the American Civil War. Throughout the weekend visitors will participate in a variety of hands on activities appropriate for all ages to learn about the daily life of the soldiers stationed at Fort Jackson. Such activities include marching, battle reenactments, heavy artillery drill, and musket and cannon demonstrations. Visitor will learn about the many individuals and units of the of the Revolutionary War , War of 1812, and Civil War that are part of the story of a Century of Sentries at Old Fort Jackson.

Program descriptions

Hooray for History: programming has been specifically designed to introduce basic historical information to young children in an age appropriate and FUN way. Generally appropriate for ages 3-8.
Family Fitness: brings the whole family together to learn about nutrition, health, and fitness in a fun and engaging way. This program is designed for children and adults to be participating together for maximum FUN and learning.
Creative Crafts : a fun program designed to allow children to create something special to take home using their imaginations and creativity. This program is generally appropriate for ages 3-12.
Story Time: (a classic read-aloud program for children of all ages. The books read during each story time will be chosen based on the ages of children participating)
Super Science (This is an experiment based science program that will introduce children to interesting science concepts through REALLY COOL investigations! This program is generally appropriate for ages 4-12.)
Awesome Art (This goes beyond crafts to teach about different medias, artists, and techniques in a child friendly way. This program is generally appropriate for ages 4-12.)

TTF Freezer Meal Club- You’ve Never Done Freezer Meals Like This!

One day, two hours, eight meals and YOU! You’ve never done Monthly Freezer Meal Clubs like this. Tummy Time Foods provide the recipes, food, disposable bakeware… everything you need to leave with 8 ready-to-cook meals for the freezer, oven or crock pot!

This group will enjoy food, fun and fellowship while preparing the meals onsite! Participants will also assist in preparing an additional set of meals to donate to families participating in the organizations, “Mommy Has Breast Cancer” and “Mommy Is In Treatment”.

The TTF Freezer Meal Club meets every first Saturday (beginning Saturday, February 7) at 10am-12:30pm at the Savannah State Farmer’s Market.

Choosing an educational route can be confusing. At the fair parents can find out about the Chatham County lottery, explore preschools, check out private schools or find a homeschool group.

You’re invited: Get Fit Challenge 2015 with Stroller Strong Moms of Savannah

Stroller Fitness Classes Savannah Pooler Richmond Hill

You’re invited to take part in Stroller Strong Mom’s of Savannah’s Get Fit Challenge.

The Get Fit Challenge is a 10 week program that starts the week of January 19th and ends the week of March 30th.

It will include both a fitness assessment (during class time) and body composition assessment (before or after class) at the start and end of the program. The fitness assessment will include five different exercises that will be counted/timed. The body composition assessment will use a handheld bodyfat monitor.
You will receive points in the following ways:
-Class attendance
-Improvement in fitness assessment
-Improvement in body composition assessment
-How well you follow your nutrition goal

The Get Fit Challenge will happen during Stroller Strong Moms’ regular class days and times. The body composition testing will occur before or after class on those days.

Points will be tallied throughout the program and participants with the most points at the end of the 10 weeks will receive gift card prizes.  Participants will be divided into two groups based on the initial assessment results. This will make it fair across the board and encourage everyone to compete against others who are at their same fitness level.
You will take a before/after picture at class at the start and end of the program so you can see how much the hard work payed off!

You have to be a member of SSM in order to participate in the Get Fit Challenge. But don’t worry, it’s easy to become a member. Junior Park Rangers

Junior Ranger programs at National Parks in Savannah, CharlestonWhen you take kids to tour national parks, you never know how much they are getting out of the visit. Especially for those of us moms who aren’t exactly history experts.

Which is why you need to pick up the Junior Ranger booklets at the visitor centers of national parks you visit. The Junior Ranger program kids engage more during the visits.

Junior Ranger booklets have activities about the national parks for ages 5-12. Junior ranger books are free to any visitor and usually are available at the visitors’ centers. Often, similar programs with more advanced activities are also available for older kids. Just ask at the site’s visitor center.

While doing the activities, children enjoy earning a badge and a certificate.

Meet Ms. Ruth

Ruth Murphy has just moved down to Savannah from Massachusetts, where she taught private and small group lessons for 13 years, and performed in bands in various communities in the area. Her piano students of all ages developed their skills and explored the world of music that means so much to them.

Her band students in grades 3 through 12 learned the basics of playing their chosen instrument (clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or flute), but they also learned about playing in a school band or a small ensemble. Ms. Murphy is looking forward to continued sharing of her love of music in Savannah.

Blue Print School of Pageantry and Finishing SavannahThe Blue Print School of Pageantry and Finishing in Savannah invites you to pull out your pearls and dust off your bowties for an evening of style, elegance and live entertainment at the inaugural “Southern Belles and Cocktails” fundraiser.

“Southern Belles and Cocktails” proceeds support the year-round work of Blue Print’s scholarship fund and youth-focused portfolio development initiatives.

Event guests will enjoy signature cocktails from Savannah’s Andaz along with a wide array of southern inspired hors d’oeuvres. Guests also can enjoy a complementary makeover bar by Jules’ More Than Makeup and a silent auction featuring items from Nourish.

The “Southern Belles and Cocktails” fundraiser is a partnership between Blueprint School of Pageantry and Finishing, Incorporated, and Jules More than Makeup.

“Southern Belles and Cocktails” is set for 6:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20, at Savannah’s Andaz Hotel, 14 Barnard Street. Admission is $50 per person. Program supporters can make donations and purchase event tickets by contacting info@blueprintpageant.com.

The Blue Print Pageant primarily serves clients, ages 8-18, for life beyond adolescence by increasing aptitude in the areas of leadership, decision making, networking and community service.

Funds raised through “Southern Belles and Cocktails” will support certification programs, scholarships, life skills development workshops, and stipends for internships and career shadowing opportunities. Funds also will support the pageant’s continuation and prizes for the 2015 Blue Print Pageant winners.

Snow Sledding

Madrac Farms added more sleds and an additional Bunny Slide for the little kids. Try the 14′ slide for faster sledding, or head over to the bunny slide for a calm ride down the snow.

Bouncy Houses

Two bouncy houses are on property at every event, zoned for specific ages, so no unfortunate accidents happen. Just enough fun to get your little ones worn out before bedtime.

Farm Animals

Come on out and feed the goats, chickens, and a pot belly pig Hazel while here. Animal feed is just 50 cents and located at the far end of the property in the goat barn.

Camp Fires

Warm up with one of the many camp fire sites we have around the farm. Roast marshmallows and hotdogs or make S’Mores with the family.

Hay Rides

No farm visit is complete without a hay ride. Bundle up next to your loved ones for a brisk 10-minute ride through the Georgia woods, where visitors frequently see deer, hawks, racoons, and foxes.

Free Snow

Free-standing snow will be on the ground also for you to make a snow angel or get into a snow ball fight with your friends. And don’t worry, someone is monitoring the area in case things get out of hand.

Winter Wonderland is organized by Enchant My Party in Savannah , a children’s princess party business that sends costumed-princesses to homes or party spots to entertain at your child’s regal birthday party with storytelling; singing & dancing; crafts & games.

Enchant My Party is offering two sessions so that every little prince and princess can enjoy quality time with the characters in a more intimate setting.

Formal/Sunday attire is encouraged for adults and costume/Sunday attire for children. The activities are geared for children ages 4-7 although children, age 3, are allowed to attend. Children under 3 are not allowed to attend this event.

This event will be in the ballroom at the Hunter Club on Hunter Army Airfield on January 31st.
