The SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah honors our U.S. service members by participating in the annual Blue Star Museums movement.
In collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America, SCAD MOA welcomes active-duty military personnel and their families with complimentary admission starting on Armed Forces Day, May 17, through Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2025.
Free admission to all local residents on the second Sunday of each month. Residents of Savannah and any surrounding counties (Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, Beaufort, Jasper) are invited to visit free of charge. Learn more here.

The Savannah Children’s Museum will have its first indoor space by the end of 2025.
The STEAM Center at Savannah Children’s Museum will be housed in the historic storehouse building at the neighboring Georgia State Railroad Museum, a museum also operated by Coastal Heritage Society.
The 100-year-old industrial building is being transformed into a modern learning environment, which will house an exhibit called “Numbers in Nature,” an innovative STEAM exhibition scheduled to open in late 2025. This interactive experience makes complex concepts accessible by revealing the mathematical patterns found all around us—in nature, music, art, and architecture.
Featured in the exhibition is an 1,800-square-foot Mirror Maze of repeating triangles, reflections, and illusions. Visitors will navigate the maze and uncover the secrets hidden inside- including the way out.

Celebrate National Train Day with Coastal Rail Buffs at Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah 10AM-3PM Sat. May 10 2025.
Coastal Rail Buffs and their friends will bring a wide variety of model train layouts for visitors to enjoy, including ones you can operate yourself.
Coastal Rail Buffs will also have a lively playlist of train-themed songs and train sound recordings for visitors to listen to while viewing the layouts. Layouts will be stationed in the historic Blacksmith Shop until 3PM.
In celebration of National Maritime Day, this free event offers hands-on activities for all ages, including ship-in-a-bottle building, face painting, and maritime crafts.
Local community partners will host interactive stations throughout the gardens and museum.
Guests can also enjoy free admission to the museum and explore the featured exhibition, Sea of Ink: Savannah Maritime Tattoos.
Ice pops from King of Pops will be available for purchase.
Come to Junior Ranger Day @ Fort Pulaski National Monument on Saturday, April 27 2025 to celebrate Fort Pulaski National Monument’s Centennial! From 10 AM to 4 PM, you can participate in several kid-friendly activities and hear the roar of cannon demonstrations! You’ll even have a chance to enlist in the Army, drill as a soldier, and play Civil War games!

Come to Old Fort Jackson in Savannah for family-friendly educational programming focusing on the lives of soldiers once stationed at Fort Jackson and its 18th-century predecessor, Mud Fort.
Daily cannon firings & fort history program at 11AM & 2PM lead by Coastal Heritage Society interpreters dressed as soldiers from different units present on-site over the 250 years of the fort’s history.

During Fort Pulaski’s eighteen years of construction, hundreds of people of all backgrounds lived on Cockspur Island. Archeological work into the Workers Village has led to fascinating findings about how these people lived. Join a park archeologist or staff member for a guided walk revealing this period in Fort Pulaski National Monument’s history.
The guided walk follows the North Pier Trail and is about .5 miles total (out-and-back). The trail is either paved or on hard-packed sand, but some archeological resources are in grassy areas. Remember to bring water and bug spray.
Ranger Talks at Fort Pulaski take place inside of historic Fort Pulaski daily. These programs typically begin in the fort’s parade ground, but start locations vary based on weather conditions. Call the Fort Pulaski National Monument Visitor Center (912-219-4233) for more information.

Fort Pulaski National Monument’s Junior Ranger Program is a fun way for kids to get the most out of their fort visit.
Children (and adults) of all ages can participate in the Junior Ranger Program. Handbooks are available inside the Visitor Center. By doing the activities, children earn a badge and a certificate. It may take up to two hours to complete the book.

A free community event, Junior League of Savannah’s Fit Kids Fest focuses on the importance of a healthy body and mind by introducing kids and their parents to fun activities designed for children of all ages.
The goal of Fit Kids Fest Fit Kids Fest is to foster overall wellness among K-12 students and introduce families to healthy lifestyle resources in the community.
Activities include free face painting and complimentary, full access to the Savannah Children’s Museum. The museum has an exploratory maze, nature’s kitchen, art maker space, puppet theater, slides, a sensory garden, scavenger hunt and more.
Calling all little creatives! Embark on a journey of artistic expression, discovery, and exploration with SCAD Museum of Art educators. Brimming with imaginative activities designed just for kiddos, each day is packed with programming inspired by the latest exhibitions.
