New Youth + Teen Classes @ Savannah Cultural Arts Center: Clay, Parent & Child Movement, Jewelry-Making, Drawing & Painting

Registration is Open for Youth & Teen Clay Classes at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center.

Got a creative child or teen interested in learning clay, ceramics even how to create on a pottery wheel

Winter term registration is now open for visual and performing arts classes including youth clay/ceramics classes at SCAC!

In Teen Clay, teens with any level of experience will learn a broad range of skills including hand-building and experimental projects. Beginning and Intermediate Youth Clay allows youth ages 9-12 to dive into the world of ceramics and complete finished pieces. Teen Clay class begins Jan 22, Beginning Youth Clay class begins Jan 30, and the Intermediate Youth Cay class begins Jan 29.

Other youth classes include new Beads, Braids, and Knots; Music & Movement parent & me class for ages 2-3; youth painting & drawing.

Teen classes begin Jan. 22 2024 and run for 7 weeks.

Youth classes begin Jan. 29 2024 and run for 6 weeks.

All classes take place at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center at 201 Montgomery St.

Fun Beading Class for Tweens at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center

Girls ages 10-12 can enjoy an afternoon of beading and braiding in this fun class on Mondays from 4:30-5:30pm starting on Jan. 29 2024.

Roll up your sleeves and tap into your creative side as we explore many materials to create wearable and useable pieces of art. Introduction to beads, Kumihimo (the Japanese art of braiding), the use of knotting and paper will be explored. Projects will include friendship bracelets, key rings, and Kumihimo bracelets.

Also join Adventures in Art, Youth Drawing and Painting, and Youth Clay!

New Parent & Child Movement Class @ Savannah Cultural Arts Center

Mornings in movement and song with little ones aged 2-3. Class is available on both Wednesday and Saturday from 10-10:45AM starting Jan. 31.

This class offers interactive bonding time with parent and child, geared towards children ages two and three. Play with your child in song and dance, helping them achieve confidence in cognitive and motor skills. Using props and imagination in themed organized play connects you with your child while watching their independence develop.

Kids aged 3-5 can also join Discovering Dance, a 3 in 1 class exploring different dance techniques and rhythm.

Youth Drawing and Painting Class at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center

An afternoon of art exploration and fun for creative kids aged 9-12. Class takes place Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30PM starting Jan. 31 2024.

In this class, young artists will have the opportunity to explore the art of both drawing and painting. You’ll develop your drawing and painting skills in a variety of fun projects that will include watercolor, pastels, and acrylics.

Kids aged 9-12 can also join Adventures in Art, Beads, Braids and Knots, and Youth Clay classes.

Telfair Museums’ PULSE Art + Technology Festival 2024 will focus on new Children’s Art Museum, Savannah

PULSE Art & Technology Festival Jan. 26 & Jan. 27 2024 @ the Jepson Center, Savannah

Telfair Museums’ PULSE Art + Technology Festival is back with a focus on the museum’s new immersive, technology-focused Children’s Art Museum, local artists’ AI art projects, and STEAM activities for children and families.

PULSE features a tech-focused talk for students, a Friday night AI film screening with cool tech projects by local artists, and a free family day.

PULSE Schedule includes:

PULSE Art and Film Night: Osamu Tezuka’s Metropolis

6-8PM (Doors open 5:30PM) | Jepson Center, Fri. Jan. 26

Come enjoy an evening of projections, cool tech projects by local artists, and a classic anime feature. Art projects by Savannah-based artists will include large-scale projections by Will Penny and John Colette, and an exhibition of media art and interactive works made with AI. At 6pm, enjoy a screening of the classic animated feature Metropolis (107 minutes, 2001). Spectacular visuals highlight this acclaimed Japanese anime by director Rintaro, set in a futuristic, regimented society where human and robots are at odds. The film is rated PG-13.

PULSE Free Family Day Sat Jan. 27

10AM–5PM (Children’s art activities 1-4PM) Sat. Jan 27 Jepson Center

Families are invited to enjoy a day of free admission to the Jepson Center in Savannah for area local residents to experience tech-based and interactive art projects and demonstrations by local artists and a special performance by Tybee Ballet Theater.

*Free admission for residents of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties.

Investment for Free Family Days is provided by the City of Savannah, the Georgia Council for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Colonial Group, Inc.

Save the date: Night at the Museum @ Savannah History Museum is Jan. 27

Historic figures throughout the museum will appear to come to life as visitors interact with them

Make plans now to experience the annual Night of the Museum event on Jan. 27 2024 @ the Savannah History Museum.

During a 90-minute interactive program, guests will be trained as honorary night guards and taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum. In addition, historic figures throughout the museum will appear to magically come to life as visitors interact with them.

Guests can choose between two sessions for the 90-minute event at either 5pm to 6:30pm or 6:30pm to 8pm. The museum will also screen a showing of the film “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” at 3pm and 8pm.
