Savannah Summer Camps 2017: STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art & Math) @ The Guild Hall

STEAM Summer Camp The Guild Savannah Chromatic Dragon

Imagine a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Summer Camp in Savannah for 4th-9th graders that has everything.

And by everything we mean: robotics & automation; video game design; Minecraft; 3D printing; freeplay gaming – all in state-of-the-art facilities at The Guild Hall in Savannah.

Plus, the camp is full day (9AM-4PM) with early drop-off, late pick-up options and campers get the perk of being able to order lunch for an extra fee from the Chromatic Dragon restaurant. There’s also a pavilion where campers can enjoy packed lunches.

Classes are all 2-week sessions for $350, with discounts for early bird or bundling. Robotics classes require an additional $75 materials fee.

There’s a free play gaming week before and after camp for only $150/week where the kids can just come to The Guild Hall and blow off steam.

Royce Learning Center Summer Programs Savannah Tutoring The Tutoring Center at Royce
Offers one-to-one tutoring specifically designed for any student who may require additional or specialized support.

Summer Programs 2017 at The Tutoring Center at Royce in Savannah offer a wide variety of options:

SUMMER SCHOOL – A five-week summer school program for students who need to strengthen academic skills. Small classes focus on Reading, Writing, English and Mathematics.
June 12 – July 13, Monday – Thursday, 8:30am – 12pm
Grades: 1st – 5th & 6th – 8th 
Tuition:  $ 900 (does not include registration fee. Need based scholarships sometimes available)
Registration Fee:  $75
Submit Summer School payment in full by May 15th to receive 5% discount

 

ENRICHMENT CAMP – A five-week afternoon enrichment camp experience that can be enjoyed on its own, or in conjunction with our Summer School or tutoring programs. Camp will focus on character building, communication and social skills along with time for summer reading lists, games, team building and more.
June 12 – July 13, Monday – Thursday, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Grades: 1st – 8th 
Tuition: $110 week / $500 for 5 weeks
Registration Fee:  $50*
(waived if enrolled in other Summer Programs)

 

STUDY SKILLS – Study Skills is a program designed to help students in 6th – 12th grades learn to study efficiently and effectively, leading to greater success in school.

Session I     June 19 – 22   1pm – 5pm
Session II    June 26 – 29    1pm – 5pm

Grades: Entering 6th – 12th 
Tuition: $ 200 / Session  (does not include registration fee)

TUTORING CENTER – The Tutoring Center at Royce Learning Center offers a one-on-one, individually designed tutoring program for each student, based on his or her academic needs. Each student receives an individual tutoring plan and is placed with a tutor based on his or her academic needs.

$55/Hour Tutoring Fee  (Need Based Scholarships Often Available)

Drawing Portfolio Builder Camp, 12–14yrs, July 3–7

This four-day camp is designed to help upper-elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills and begin the process of developing a portfolio. Students will focus on measurement, proportion, perspective, and use of value to create volume and space. The camp will also include practice portraiture and sketching from clothed models. The Drawing Portfolio Builder Camp is a great class for students to learn and advance the skills necessary for developing art portfolios.

Art with the Pros Session 6–10yrs, June 26–29

Member $175/Non-member $195
Each day, this camp will feature a different local artist providing a unique lesson based on his or her medium. Lunch in Telfair Square (weather permitting), breaks and games in ArtZeum, and special tours of the galleries are all included. Students will learn to give constructive criticism on their own and their peers’ artwork. The program culminates with a student art exhibition and a reception in the Jepson Center.

Full STEAM ahead! In this weeklong camp, students will build their own video games. Students will explore, play, and learn computer programming from scratch using open-source game-making programs. Stave off summer doldrums! Exploring Telfair Museums’ three sites and exhibitions has never been so much fun. Each day, participants will tour a new exhibit and learn to create the very same types of art seen in the galleries. Find inspiration with instruction in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Students immerse themselves in innovative arts lessons taught by professional artists.

The Ultimate Crafty Kids Camp is packed with a variety of projects: screen printing, knitting, friendship bracelets, calligraphy folder paper, and much more. This summer camp teaches beginning students how to create their own video game using Scratch, a colorful programming environment that makes it easy to bring interactive stories to life. In class, students collaborate on developing a game from the beginning to final polish. A fun and informative way to introduce younger students to the art of video game development.

This intensive, weeklong program focuses on black-and-white and digital photography, as well as the basic functions of 35mm manual cameras. While instructors emphasize the advancements of digital media and Adobe Photoshop, they will also cover conventional methods of film photography, including pinhole cameras, to supplement the experience. The camp features student use of both manual and digital cameras. This camp will utilize the William Wegman: Improved Photography exhibition as inspiration for on-location shoots in the historic district. The program will culminate with a reception and exhibition of the participants’ work in the Jepson Center.

Raising STEAM: Technology, Art, and Electronics 10–12yrs, June 19–23

This comprehensive STEAM Camp gives young people the opportunity to explore the artistic potential of technology. In this weeklong camp, students will learn to use a variety of technologies and methods to create and express themselves. Students will explore 3D printing, create images with Adobe Photoshop, and solder their own electronic-noise toys. Participants will also learn basic computer programming with Arduino microcontrollers. The program culminates with a reception and exhibition of the participants’ work in the Jepson Center.

Savannah Summer Camps 2017: Massie Heritage Art & Digging History Camps

Savannah Summer Camps 2017 Massie Heritage Center Art History

We can’t wait until Summer 2017 and are excited to post our first of many Savannah summer camps.

Massie Heritage Center in Savannah will offer these unique summer camps.

Art through the Ages Day Camp
Rising K through 3rd grade
Session I: June 5th – June 9th, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Session II: June 26th through June 30th, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Students will learn about arts and crafts from the Creek and Cherokee period through Colonial and Victorian times up to the modern era. Campers will create their own artwork and explore Savannah’s museums including the Jepson Center for the Arts and SCAD Art Museum. The camp will culminate in a gallery show featuring their own “Artwork through the Ages.”

Digging History Day Camp
Rising 3rd through 6th grade students
Session I: July 10 through July 14, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Session II: July 24 through July 28, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Be an archaeologist at summer camp! Take part in a “simulated excavation” and learn the entire process of digging up, gridding out to scale, labeling and identifying artifacts. You will also make special crafts and discover many of the archaeological treasures of the Georgia Coast by visiting Battlefield Park, Wormsloe State Historic Site, Colonial Park Cemetery, Fort Frederica, Skidaway Island and more.

Cost

For $135 per camper, you will be provided all supplies, admissions to historical sites and museums, transportation and snacks for the entire week. Extended care is available for the hours of 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an additional $25 per week.

About Massie Heritage Center

Massie Heritage Center: Built in 1856 on beautiful Calhoun Square, Massie School is the oldest public school in Georgia. Closing as a traditional school in 1974, but remaining part of the Savannah-Chatham Public School System, Massie reopened as a Heritage Center in 1978 providing curriculum-based educational programs for school children K-12. Massie also houses several hands-on exhibits showcasing the history and architecture of Savannah.
