Memorial/Celebration fo Life for Richmond Hill 5-year-old boy who battled AML Leukemia

Saturday, April 27th, 2013
Evan Nelms, 5, of Richmond Hill passed away after battle with AML Leukemia

Evan Nelms
Richmond Hill Resident
June 11, 2007 to April 13, 2013

We are so sorry to learn that Evan Nelms, 5, of Richmond Hill passed away on April 13, 2013 after his year-long battle with AML Leukemia. Click here to read an article I wrote about Evan in August 2012.

Below is info from Evan’s family about his May 3 Memorial/Celebration of Life Event, which will be open to the public.

Information for Evan Nelms Memorial/Celebration of Life Event; for a local 5 year old boy who lost his one year heroic battle to AML Leukemia.

Friday, May 3, 2013 from 6pm (until) at JF Gregory Park in Richmond Hill, GA.
The Memorial/Celebration of Life Event for Evan Nelms who passed away after a year long heroic battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Evan joined the angels on April 13, 2013 in Philadelphia at the age of 5 years old. He was a resident of Richmond Hill and the beloved son of Evette Cooper (Richmond Hill) and Jason Nelms (Pooler). Loving brother of Zachery, 14 and adored Grandson of Bob and Yvette Hoban (Richmond Hill).

This event will be open to the public. We will be celebrating Evan’s short 5 years with a very short Christian service and moment of silence. We encourage everyone to bring pictures, collages, letters, stories and the like to help remember Evan. Your memories will not only help each other but also Evette and Evan’s family. This event will be very child friendly, as many of Evan’s little buddies and classmates will be attending. Our focus is “fun”, as Evan would have wanted. We encourage children, parents and families to attend. We will have bounce houses, face painting, and a balloon release for Evan. Everyone will be able to write a message on a balloon for Evan, if they chose, and let it “fly high to heaven for Evan”! We will share stories and memories together, but most of all, have some fun for Evan! Many local organizations and businesses have donated balloons, face painting, etc. If you are interested in donating any child friendly services for this event, which we welcome, please email Evette at info@strengthforevan.org.

Evette Cooper, Evan’s mother, plans on speaking at 7pm. She would like to personally thank the community for the continued support of her son and family. She asks that all who knew Evan, knew of Evan, prayed for him and their family, donated, supported and the like please come out to celebrate Evan. This is a casual, child friendly event. The family asks that everyone “Go Orange for Evan”, as orange is the color that represents Leukemia. Evette has stated, “our community is amazing and I’m very proud to be part of it! Evan was a true inspiration to so many. It warms my heart to know how much he impacted our community! I couldn’t be prouder! Fly High Evan!”
