(Savannah Fall Festivals 2018): Savannah Greek Festival

Savannah Greek Festival 2016

The 68th annual Greek Festival at the Hellenic Center, 14 W. Anderson St., Savannah, Oct. 11-13 2018.

The Greek Festival, sponsored by St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, will feature homemade Greek foods, desserts greek dancing, church tours, market place, a live band and so much more during the three-day celebration of Greek food, music and heritage.

Menu favorites include:

  • spanakopita (Spinach w/ feta cheese & herbs baked in layers of filo);
  • Greek meatballs (a favorite for kids of all ages);
  • gyros (sliced beef and lamb served on pita bread);
  • diples (fried filo dough dipped in honey syrup);
  • kourabiedes (butter cookies topped with powdered sugar;
  • baklava, pecans & spices baked in layers of filo.

Hosted in the St. Paul’s Hellenic Center, the Savannah Greek Festival attracts thousands of visitors each year. Come to enjoy the food, shopping, music, dancing and atmosphere of the Greek culture.

The festival will have free admission until 4PM Thursday & Friday with a requested $2 donation after 4PM. There is also a requested $2 donation all day Saturday.

Oktoberfest 2017 Wiener Dog Races Savannah

It’s a Wiener Dog Racing, Bratwurst Tasting, Oompah Dancing celebration @ Savannah’s 35rd Annual Oktoberfest on Historic River Street.

Enjoy a bit of Germany…Savannah style with a beer garden offering a variety of beers, food booths featuring German cuisine, and of course the famous Wiener Dog Races, which start at 10:30AM on Sat. Oct 6. There will be regional arts & crafts exhibitors, live entertainment and all weekend long.

Painting classes in Rousakis Plaza at the Waterfront Kidz Zone® take on a fall twist with pumpkins serving as canvases. Souvenir pumpkins are $10, with proceeds benefiting the Savannah Chapter of the March of Dimes.

2018 Buddy Walk & FREE Family Fun Festival, Savannah

Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society

The 2018 Buddy Walk will be Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10AM in Forsyth Park in historic downtown Savannah.

The 13th annual one-mile fundraiser benefits the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS).

Past events welcomed over 5,000 participants and this year LDSS is hoping to have even more community members come out and raise awareness and funds for local programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.

The Buddy Walk Program encourages participants of all ages and abilities. Carriages, strollers, wheelchairs, little red wagons and pets are all welcome. The goals are to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice. Past Buddy Walk events have raised millions to benefit education, research, and advocacy initiatives nationally, as well as the Night of Champions, Camp Buddy and many other services here in the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire.

Family Fun Festival

The walk begins at 10AM with a Family Fun Festival being held immediately thereafter. A wide range of activities including face painting, bouncy houses, other games, as well as music and refreshments will last until 2pm.

Registration is $15 per person or $50 for a family of four, which includes a T-Shirt, lunch & admission to the festival. Savannah Children’s Museum will host a day of healthy living and family fun, showcasing our many health and wellness programs and great community partnerships. The event, called “Healthy Me!” will take place on

The event will feature some Coastal Heritage Society’s Mobile Museum programs, including Cooking Matters using the Charlie Cart mobile kitchen and Bonnie’s Garden, a garden on wheels that can deliver nutritional programming at any location. Savannah Children’s Museum educators will also lead interactive programming that encourages whole body wellness.

Many of of the museum’s community partners will be on-site, including Yogi Palz offering kids yoga classes, The Memorial Health Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah will lead a veggie relay race, Dogwood Dentistry will teach the proper ways for kids to brush their teeth, Savannah Children’s Theatre will perform “Hansel and Gretel Learn How to Eat Right” at noon.

Healthy Savannah and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire will share information about their work in the Savannah community.

(Pooler Fall Festivals 2018) FREE Festival in the Park, amusement rides, fireworks during Patriot Weekend in Pooler

Free Pooler Festival 2015 Patriot Weekend The Festival in the Park will be at the Pooler Park off Rogers Street (900 S. Rogers Street, Pooler, Ga.) on Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, 4-9:30PM.

The event is free and will be family friendly. Food, drinks and merchandise will be available for purchase from local vendors. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Parking options here.

*a First Responders Showcase, 4-6PM. Meet those that serve in local Police and Fire Departments and check out their vehicles and equipment. See firetrucks, bomb sniffing dogs, emergency helicopters and more.

With their roots dating back to 1759, Savannah firefighters have faithfully protected Savannah and
saved countless lives through the years. In recognition of their service, SWA and its Bacon Fest sponsors are
hosting our Annual Savannah Firefighters’ Breakfast for active and retired Savannah firefighters at 8:30AM,
Friday, September 7th in Rousakis Plaza. Come have a cup of coffee on the waterfront with firefighters
and give thanks for all their hard work.

Upcoming kid-friendly happenings @ The UGA Marine Education Center & Aquarium on Skidaway Is. in Savannah include:

FREE Skidaway Marine Science Day

Enjoy an afternoon of activities, tours and talks on the University of Georgia Skidaway Island campus, located on the north end of the island. (10 Ocean Science Circle) The campus-wide open house will be presented by the UGA Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, and Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary.

The UGA Aquarium, operated by UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, will be open to visitors with no admission fee. Aquarium educators will offer visitors an afternoon full of activities including a hands-on reptile exhibit, behind-the-scenes peeks of the aquarium, fish feedings and microscope investigations.

A touch tank exhibit will allow guests of all ages to get up close and personal with common coastal invertebrates such as spider crabs, whelks and horseshoe crabs.
