Thurs. June 16 2022: Design experimental furniture with unusual materials. Discover the dexterous materiality of Sang Hoon Kim’s works in his SCAD MOA exhibition Soft Spot. Following a gallery tour and discussion of the artist’s alternative use of an unlikely material, create your own furniture works using — surprise! — newspaper and tape. Learn more here.

Thurs. June 23 2022: Chill and thrill at color theory. Tour Katharina Grosse’s exhibition Chill Seeping and discuss the many ways of looking at the work. Then experiment with an alternative dyeing method to create unique color field studies. Learn more here.

Thurs. July 21 2022: Explore Patrick Dougherty’s immersive, site-specific sculpture made of tree saplings. Then design your own whimsical creation to enliven our human desire to dream and imagine. Get immersed in land art. Learn more here.

Thurs. July 28 2022: Explore Southern history and vernacular. Watch A Thousand Miles and Counting, a SCAD-produced documentary exploring William and Ellen Craft’s historic journey to freedom. Then discover the revolutionary work of artist Beverly Buchanan, whose experimental “shack” structures explore the relationship between memory — personal, historical, or geographical — and place. Afterward, work with varied and uncommon materials to build your own model dwelling. Learn more here.
