Thanksgiving demos, interactive program Savannah Old Fort Jackson Did you know that Old Fort Jackson in Savannah has seen 100 years of military conflict? The location played an important role in the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War.

Come learn about the importance of the fort’s location during our special “A Century of Sentries” program over this upcoming MLK Jr. Day 3-day weekend 2016.

Explore the daily life of a soldier, while uncovering stories about the many individuals and units once stationed here.

Guests can participate in a variety of activities appropriate for all ages. Available activities include marching, battle reenactments, heavy artillery drill and musket and cannon demonstrations.

loyalists liberty Savannah History Museum Loyalists & Liberty: A Revolutionary War Experience at Savannah History Museum, Fri. Jan. 15- Mon. Jan. 18  2016.

The story of Savannah’s role in the American Revolution comes alive. This hands-on family-friendly experience starts in Savannah History Museum, where you will learn about Savannah at the time of the Revolution, conditions of a soldier in the American militia, and events leading up to the 1779 Battle of Savannah. The program concludes on Battlefield Memorial Park with musket firing demonstrations, while you join in our reenactment of the militia attack on this British fortification.

What: Come for a site tour of Georgia State Railroad Museum and enjoy a special diesel train ride, showcasing our #119 locomotive, a 44 tonner center cab switch engine, which was built in 1947.

When/Where: Daily from Jan. 15-18 at Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.

Cost: The price of general admission. Adult tickets are $10 and children’s tickets are $6 (for children 2 to 12 years of age.) Discounted train rides for members.
