Military personnel (Active & Retired) and their families are welcomed to Oatland Island Wildlife Center for free – with ID or DD214- in honor of Independence Day – on two weekends before & and after July 4th.
Oatland offer two weekends of free admission for those with a military ID or DD214 on July 1 & 2 and July 8 & 9 2023. This is in honor of Independence Day.
Come out and enjoy the day exploring the beautiful grounds and watching the animals in the summer air. All visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch.

Free World Oceans Day program, June 10 @ UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island, Savannah
Join Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant for World Oceans Day at the UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island in Savannah on June 10 2023, 10AM-2PM. Throughout the day, celebrate oysters, an important coastal habitat that provides a wealth of benefits to marine life and coastal communities.
During this free event, the aquarium will also debut a special art exhibition “SUBMERGED: An Underwater Exhibition of Bioceramic Artwork.”
In addition to viewing the exhibition, staff at the Shellfish Research Lab, who specialize in oyster aquaculture and reef restoration, will be offering oyster-themed activities for people of all ages.
World Oceans Day is a FREE event for all visitors and registration is not required. All activities will take place between 10AM-2PM. However, the aquarium will remain open until 5PM.

Plant Riverside District will host the 2023 “Savannah Salutes” Memorial Day Celebration Fri., May 26 through Mon. May 29 2023. This family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, will take place along Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St.
This patriotic four-day event will include a special Memorial Day presentation by the Veterans of Foreign Wars on the Montgomery Park Stage on Mon. May 29 at 5P as well as free live music and food and drink options for all ages throughout the holiday weekend.
Featured performers include the Parris Island Marine Band on Sat. May 27 at 1PM.; the Eric Culberson Blues Band on Sun. May 28 at 1PM.; Hollifield on Sun. May 28 at 6PM.; and Laiken Love and The Fellowship of Love on Mon. May 29 at 1PM
Additional highlights include a Savannah Ghost Pirates Slapshot Booth on Sat. May 27 and Sun. May 28 2-6PM as well as nightly fountain shows in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at 9PM featuring patriotic music and a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces.
Plant Riverside District’s smokestacks and fountains will be illuminated with red, white and blue lights after dark.

Savannah store shares comics with community on Sat. May 6 10AM-6PM
Neighborhood Comics invites Savannah-area comic book lovers to participate in Free Comic Book Day 2023. The event will be held at 1205 Bull St from 10AM-6PM on MAY 6, 2023.
This will be the store’s largest Free Comic Book Day event ever, with 10 professional comic artists on hand signing books and meeting readers. There will also be a food truck, costumed characters, and giveaways.
Thousands of free comic books will be available spanning multiple genres and age levels. This year’s selection of comics includes beloved characters and franchises such as Spider-man, Archie, Umbrella Academy, Star Wars and more.
Scheduled guests include Sonic the Hedgehog illustrator Tracy Yardley, long-time GI Joe artist Robert Atkins, DC Comics cover artist Edwin Galmon and more.
