Free ice cream for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance on Monday afternoons during July 2023, Savannah

July 3, 4-7PM & Mondays in July from 4-7PM for free ice-cream for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance

Almost time for I Pledge season @ Leopold’s Ice Cream on Broughton Street downtown Savannah.

The I Pledge for Ice Cream Project 2023 kicks off  Mon. July 3 2023 from 4-7PM @ Leopold’s Ice Cream. During that time, any child (age 12 and younger, accompanied by an adult) who can recite the Pledge of Allegiance gets a free child’s scoop in a cake cone, cup or sugar cone.

After the kick-off, Leopold’s Ice Cream on Broughton Street will hold additional I Pledge for Ice Cream events each Monday in July 2023 from 4-7PM. The 2023 dates are: July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.

The I Pledge for Ice Cream Project started in Savannah on July 1, 2010 & now is in 40 U.S. states and 153 frozen dessert shops.

Fourth of July events @ Plant Riverside District Savannah

Join Plant Riverside District in Savannah on the Riverwalk as Plant Riverside District teams up with @savannahtiedye to bring you Fourth of July tie-dye experience: tie-dye your very own red, white, and blue T-shirts.

From July 1-July 4 2023, the Tie-Dye Corner will be open 1-5PM. Bring your 100% cotton t-shirt to dye for free or buy one on-site for $10.

FIREWORKS & FOURTH OF JULY VIEWING PARTY

Plant Riverside District will sponsor the annual Savannah’s Waterfront Independence Day Fireworks Show over the Savannah River on Tuesday, July 4 at 9:15PM. A special Fourth of July Viewing Party at Electric Moon will feature live DJ Lil’ G, exciting giveaways and an ideal vantage point to watch the fireworks show. Admission is $20 per person at the door.

LIVE MILITARY BANDS

On Sat. July 1 at 1PM, the Parris Island Marine Band will perform at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at Plant Riverside District.

The 116th United States Army Band, a unit of the Georgia National Guard from Marietta, Ga., will perform live on Sun. July 2 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park from 5 to 6:30PM. Savannah singer, speaker and author Stephanie Cherry will sing “The Star Spangled Banner” preceding the 116th United States Army Band’s performance.

KIDS ACTIVITIES

A special Kids Corner will offer the opportunity to tie-dye t-shirts red, white and blue. Plant Riverside District will host the tie-dye Kids Corner at the Riverwalk Pavilions from Sat. July 1-Tues. July 4 from 1 to 5PM. Guests can bring their own 100% cotton T-shirt to tie dye free of charge or can purchase a T-shirt on-site for $10. 

RED, WHITE & BLUE LIGHTING AND MORE

Throughout the holiday weekend, Plant Riverside District’s smokestacks, fountains and other familiar landmarks will be illuminated with red, white and blue lights after dark. Nightly America the Beautiful Fountain Shows will feature music in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. at 9PM and 10PM

Old Fort Jackson Fourth of July Weekend Schedule for the public Sat July 1-Tues. July 4 2023

Old Fort Jackson in Savannah will offer the following family friendly presentations to celebrate Independence Day.

Sat. July 1 – Mon. July 3 @ Old Fort Jackson, Savannah

Explore history with Coastal Heritage Society Resource Educators portraying Civil War Era soldiers in 1863.

10AM: Rifle musket firing and relieving the Skirmish on Whitemarsh Island.

10:30AM – Rifle musket firing and remembering the Assault on Battery Wagner.

11AM – Read excerpts of the Declaration of Independence. Consider perspectives of Confederate and Union Soldiers. 12 Pounder Cannon firing.

12 Noon – Break for Mid Day Meal.

1PM – Rifle musket firing and relieving the Skirmish on Whitemarsh Island.

1:30PM- Signal Corps and 6 Pounder Cannon firing.

2PM – Defend the Fort drill, read excerpts of the Declaration of Independence. Consider perspectives of Confederate and Union Soldiers. 12 Pounder Cannon firing.

Tues. July 4 @ Old Fort Jackson, Savannah

Explore history with Coastal Heritage Society Resource Educators portraying American Revolutionary War Era soldiers in 1777.

10AM Pike and cutlass drill and relieving the seizure of the ship Phillipa and the Battle of the Rice Boats. 6 Pounder Cannon firing.

10:30AM – Construction of the Mud Fort to defend the Mud Hole. Guests are invited to take part in musket drill.

11AM – Demonstration of marching and musket drill used by the Savannah Provincial Company of Artillery by a four man Squad using His Majesty’s ‘64 Manual. Remember the crucial Battle of Cowpens, where Georgia Refugees led by James Jackson won a critical victory to establish American Independence. Read excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. 24 Pounder Cannon firing.

12:00 Noon – Break for Mid Day Meal.

Visit Savannah History Museum for Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours on Fri. June 30-Tues. July 4.

On Mon. July 3: Savannah History Museum will have additional Resource Educators portraying the American, French, and British soldiers who fought. There will also be swivel gun cannon firings.

July 4th-Theme Week @ Red Gate Farms Horse Camp

There’s still time to register for a special Fourth of July-themed week @ Red Gate Farms Equestrian Summer Camp in Savannah July 3-July 7 2023.

Horse camp is a spectacular week-long event  including daily horseback riding lessons teaching basic horse care and horsemanship, arts and crafts, recreational games/activities, daily picnic on the farm, trivia, and more. There will be a horse show and a pizza & pool party every Friday.

No prior horse experience is required.

Ages 7-13 years old. 

Each camp session is Monday – Friday from 8:30AM to 1PM

Loyalists & Liberty Battlefield Tours @ Savannah History Museum for Independence Day

July 4th Battlefield Tours will be @ 10:30AM, Noon & 2PM @ Savannah History Museum.

March through history and learn about the American Revolution in Savannah. Experience a black powder demonstration, immerse yourself in 1779 Savannah, and hear about the personalities that shaped the city’s fight for freedom.

Tours begin in Savannah History Museum with a brief introduction and then visitors are led to Battlefield Memorial Park for further interpretation of the battle as well as a musket firing demonstration.

Admission to Savannah History Museum is required.

Tybee’s annual celebration of America’s birthday. Independence day fireworks start between 9PM and 9:30 pm. The show is staged on the pier but is easily viewed from any of Tybee Island’s eastern beaches.

Hit the beach this July 4th for the USA 5K at Coligny Beach, Hilton Head Island. This family-friendly July 4th celebration is open to runners and walkers of all ages and all skill levels.

The 2023 event is entirely on the hard, flat beach at low tide.
