A fun free activity to do with young kids is catch the FREE Savannah Belles ferry that runs multiple times a day across the Savannah River between River Street and Hutchinson Island.
We typically catch it at City Hall Landing on River Street. Park along Bay Street and take the outside elevator that’s between Savannah City Hall and the Hyatt Regency. There’s a glass window in the elevator with views of Savannah River.
You can take it across the river to the Trade Center and Westin Hotel, maybe walk around the Westin, go to the Midnight Sun Cafe (open during morning hours) or pack snacks to have on the lawn benches outside the Westin.
Or you can take the ferry to Waving Girl Landing by the Marriott on the same side of the river as City Hall Landing.
The Savannah Belles ferry operates daily year round except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Days.
