Save the date for The Nutcracker in Savannah 2014

Recognized as the premiere dance company in Southeast Georgia, Savannah Ballet Theatre (the official company of Savannah Ballet School of Dance) is best known locally for its annual production of the perennial holiday favorite, The Nutcracker in Savannah. The Academy of Dance will perform Beauty & the Beast on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 2 PM at the historic Savannah Theatre, 222 Bull Street, Chippewa Square. All are welcome and invited to attend.

This is an ideal 90 minute performance for school field trips and homeschooled students. Cost is $5 per student with chaperones being free of charge.

The Academy of Dance in Savannah offers ballet classes at their studio at 74 W. Montgomery Crossroads (across from Summit Gymnastics) and will offer a variety of summer camps (listed in the SouthernMamas Summer Camps 2014 guide here.)

Glor na Daire Academy of Irish Dance in Savannah is once again offering free Irish Dance classes for children interested in trying Irish Dance. (After seeing these talented dancers perform at last weekend’s Savannah Irish Festival, we are hooked & definitely want to give this a try.)

Beginner Dancers can take one month (4 weeks) of free Irish Dance classes if they start in February or March. These dancers are also invited to join Glor na Daire in marching in the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day parade on Mon. March 17.

Glor na Daire Academy of Irish Dance will host an open house on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Savannah.

The studio is located at 7176 Hodgson Memorial (behind Batteries Plus).

This will give anyone interested in Irish dance the best opportunity to see a little bit of class, as well as get all the information they’ll need to get started. The teachers will share information about classes (what to expect in the coming year), Glor gear (what your dancers will need for class and for performances), competitions, performances, tuition, registration, etc.

On Fri. March 1 2013, Savannah Danse Theatre is offering a school show at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM for area children @ Trustee’s Theatre, 216 E. Broughton St., Savannah.

Marianna Tcherkassky, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Ballet Mistress, will teach an intermediate-advanced classical ballet class for ages 10 and up. In determining if the class is appropriate, students should be able to remember and execute complex/multiple count petite allegro combinations after one or two demonstrations. Students should be able to balance on releve in extended poses such as arabesque and attitude and land a double pirouette smoothly. $25

Private lessons for piano, woodwinds, guitar, brass, and voice
Such lessons are in high demand and there are only a few times available. Come on in and find out why Ms. Amy has such a great level of success and student retention. Private Music Discovery lessons: for preschoolers whose parents want them to learn a musical instrument.
Their little fingers may not be able to do it yet, but through these private half hour lessons, your little one can explore music, sound, and strengthen fingers.
