U-pick blackberry picking is open at Bamboo Farm & Coastal Gardens
Before heading there, call the Hotline at 912.921.5897 to check field conditions or follow Bamboo Farm & Coastal Gardens on Facebook here.
Price: $3 per pound. Pre-weighted, pre-lined buckets available.
Cash or Check only.
Hours are Monday – Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM (everyone must be out of the field at 4 PM) & Saturday from 9 AM to Noon.
Buckets can be picked up at the main office. Go around the “mule barn” (the building that houses the public restrooms) or around the back of the office and back to the front to enter the main office entrance under the pergola with the Confederate Jasmine.

The gardens have picnic tables scattered around the grounds if you want to make a picnic out of your strawberry picking. For directions and hours, click here.

Toddler Tuesday at Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Savannah

TWO Toddler Tuesdays timeslots each week. Same topic and activities for each one. One program will be at 10-10:45 AM and the second at 11-11:45 AM. Gates open at 9:45 AM. Preregistration is required. Register via phone at 912.395.1500 or 912.395.1517 or sign up at Oatland’s gift shop. REGISTER BY NOON MONDAY. Limit of 20 toddlers per program, so sign up early. $3 program fee per child and adults free! Cash or checks only. Included in the program fee is entrance to Oatland including the opportunity to walk the trails or visit the Barnyard after the program. Toddler Tuesday is now held in its own spanking new classroom in the newly renovated main Oatland Island building. This theme for March 29: Dirt Digging Dynamos:Armadillos. Discover those digging machines, armadillos. The group will take a walk to visit Oatland’s armadillos, Rocky, Houdini and Bronco.

Azeleas, dogwoods and pollen aren’t the only signs that spring has arrived in Savannah. So is the opening of the u-pick strawberry fields at the Bamboo Farm & Coastal Gardens.

U-pick strawberries opened Mon. March 3, 2012. Call 912-921-5897 to confirm the fields are open for picking. Best time to pick is 9 AM, before it gets too hot and before the field is over-picked.

HOURS; 9 AM-4 PM weekdays & 9 AM – NOON Saturdays.

COST: $2 per pound.

Warm up at a Cajun dance workshop led by Kelli Jones, accompanied by Cajun accordionist Jesse Lége and fiddler Joel Savoy with the Caleb Klauder Honky Tonk Band. Families welcome!

Joel Savoy is a talented young fiddler and producer from Eunice, Louisiana. Co-founder of the Red Stick Ramblers and a regular member of the Savoy Family Band, Savoy’s passion for Cajun music is palpable whenever he plays. Accordionist Jesse Lége has been performing for more than 40 years and was inducted into the Cajun music Hall of Fame in 1998. Providing the backbeat for Savoy and Lége is the Caleb Klauder Honky Tonk Band, a western country group from Portland, Oregon. Come down and see the Morris Center transformed into a Louisiana dancehall.

Horseshoe Crab Program at Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Is

The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will host a program at 6:30 p.m. to introduce participants to the biology and behavior of the American Horseshoe Crab. Participants will learn about the physical characteristics that have allowed these animals to successfully survive in the ocean for millions of years, their use in the medical field, and valuable ecological importance. Creating Woodland Houses Using Natural Materials; a special program about creating Woodland „Fairy‟ houses. During this program, participants will learn about woodland houses and identify natural materials that can be used to make a woodland house. Lowcountry Carnivorous Plants and Build Your Own Bog Garden Workshop at Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Is.

Learn about carnivorous plants and then stay to build your own bog garden. The workshop will include all materials and a specimen of pitcher plant and Venus Fly Trap. Participants will be able to take home a container with the proper soil mixture and plants in it.

Lowcountry Animals at Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Is.

HarbourFest offers entertainment seven nights a week; including music, face painting, bouncy houses, balloon animals, sand art, and many more kid-friendly activities. Enjoy hand-made original arts and crafts from local vendors who specialize in jewelry, accessories, pet items, outdoor decorations and much more.
Long-time HarbourFest entertainer and family favorite, Shannon Tanner, will perform two shows at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Memorial Day, May 30, and running through Labor Day, Sept 5. Arts and crafts booths, vendors and children’s activities will be available each night as well. This year, Cappy the Clown joins the show bringing her brand of clown entertainment and magic that is sure to delight all ages. Cappy will be at Shelter Cove 6-9:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday.
Tuesday night fireworks will light up the sky over the harbour at dusk on, June 14, 21 and 28; July 12, 19 and 26; Aug. 2 and 9; and Monday, July 4 (extended holiday show).
From 5:30 to 9:30 each evening, enjoy nightly entertainment at San Miguel’s and Scott’s Fish Market, two of the many water-front restaurants located within Shelter Cove Harbour
