Plant Riverside District’s award-winning pastry team will create a spectacular gingerbread house that will remain on display through January 1. Crafting a gingerbread house for guests to enjoy is a beloved holiday tradition that takes one month to create. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the unveiling of this impressive culinary creation.

Ring in the holidays at the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at Plant Riverside District. This popular family-friendly event serves as the official grand opening of the fourth annual Savannah Christmas Market and will kick off the holiday season. Enjoy the holiday tree lighting, preceded by a live reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Roger Moss, and special appearances by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.

Savannah Santa Train, one of the largest annual holiday family events in the Lowcountry, returns on Sat. Dec. 9, 2023, 9AM-5PM @ Georgia State Railroad Museum, 655 Louisville Rd., Savannah.
Festive activities and entertainment include a holiday-themed diesel locomotive train ride experience, Tin Soldier training, crafts and historic children’s games, live performances, a visit from Santa Claus & more.
Savannah Santa Train is hosted each year by Georgia State Railroad Museum and Savannah Children’s Museum. Tickets are $20 per person for all guests age eighteen months and up and online pre-registration is required here.
Train rides are available every fifteen minutes, so please select a time to reserve your seat.
Reminder: Did you know that your scheduled train ride is NOT your start time for the event? You can begin your day at Santa Train at any time – come as early and stay as long as you like for a full day of holiday cheer!

Hero Fest educates families about local heroes, such as law enforcement, first responders, medical personnel, emergency organizations, military branches, and many other “heroes” who play an essential role in the Savannah community.
Several community partners will be on-site including Chatham County Police Department (plus a squad car!), Savannah Fire and Rescue (with a fire truck!), WSAV’s Weather Tracker Van, and more.
CHS Educators will lead special programming highlighting leaders, like nurses, soldiers, and teachers, and will include musket demonstrations, a cannon firing.

These “play dates” are unstructured playtime with age-appropriate toys, swings, slides, a bouncy house, and more. It is a great way to get your child out of the house and around other children in a safe, clean and fun environment.

Toddler Tuesday is a program @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program meets at the picnic pavilion and includes singing, finger play, a story, and a possible encounter with one of Oatland’s furry, feathered or scaly residents.
Occasionally the program ventures to an exhibit, so dress appropriately and bring your stroller and walking shoes. Toddler Tuesday is weather dependent and in case of extreme weather and a cancellation is called for, attendees will be emailed at the address you registered your child with.
Sessions are offered twice on Tuesdays from 10AM-10:30AM & 11AM-11:30AM and registration is not required, but it helps us speed up check in and if there is a cancellation you will be the first to know.
Program Cost:
$5 for adults / free for adult FOO members
$3 for military adults/ free for adult FOO members
$5 for children participating in the program (FOO members and non members must pay program fee)
$3 per class if you buy a multi pass punch card (6 class minimum purchase)

The December 19th Polar Express Party is a special program. It will be inside Oatland’s conference room and will include a typical Toddler Tuesday program about polar animals; followed by train play (large and small train sets), a holiday craft, hot chocolate and cookie snack, and winter snow play.
This program is a special fundraiser for Oatland. Reservation is required due to limited space inside.
After Dec. 19, there will be a short break in Toddler Tuesday programs for the holidays, and will reconvence on Jan. 2, 2024.
This Sat. Oct. 21, 2023 @ 10AM, join the Savannah Cultural Arts Center for a reading of “Mikey’s Marvelous Mummy Wraps,” with author Tony Dye!
A young mummy discovers that when he dares to see things differently, his life changes forever! Author Tony Dye will read his story of surprise and adventure, followed by mummy movement and a colorful art activity with one of Savannah Cultural Arts Center’s teaching artists!
Imagination Mornings are engaging mornings of crafts, stories, and movement that take place inside the Savannah Cultural Arts Center! They are geared toward children up to 7 years old.
Space is limited, register as a family unit to reserve your spot. $5/per family. A parent/guardian must be present with their children at all times.
