The Sandbox Children’s Museum and Lawton Stables , both on Hilton Head Is., invite you & your family to “Sandbox at the Stables” this Labor Day 2016.

Everyone is invited to this community celebration on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. @ Lawton Stables, located inside Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Is. (about a 1 hr drive from Savannah).

Activities (some free, some require activity tickets) scheduled include:

Craft projects
Inflatable water slides and bounce houses
Pony rides

Sea Turtle Exhibit

The Sandbox Children’s Museum on Hilton Head Is. has recently acquired (in a partnership with Edventure Children’s Museum and a grant from The Institute of Museum and Library Services) a new exhibit that tells the story of our local loggerhead sea turtles and their importance Hilton Head Is. and their natural habitat.

The Sandbox has part of it on display in their “Turtle” room at the museum. Come by and take a look.Remember, LIGHTS OUT at 10pm, cover up holes on the beach and leave a clear path for the turtles to nest during sea turtle nesting season May 1-October 1.

Exhibit Opens with Cook-off, Live Music, Kid Zone

Roots: The Lowdown on Lowcountry Cuisine, the upcoming exhibit at the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage, opens with a day full of festivities, including a community cook-off, on April 30, 2016 from 11 am to 5 pm. The event is family friendly with a kid zone, food trucks, live music, workshops, local artisans and living history reenactments.

The community cook-off is an opportunity for anyone to show off their culinary skills in two categories: Lowcountry Boil and Barbeque. Entries can be cooked on site or brought to the event already cooked. Either way, the dishes will be judged by a select panel and prizes will be awarded. Those who want to participate in the community cook-off should call the Morris Center to sign up before April 20, 2016.

The 8th annual THE GREAT PUMPKIN PATCH opens from Oct. 1 -Oct. 31 2015 @ Holiday Farms in nearby Ridgeland, SC, about 1 hour from Savannah.

Spend a day on Holiday Farms enjoying: Bounce house, Haytona Speedway, Duck Race, Cow Milking, Steer Roping, Corn Grinding, Barnyard Zoo, and of course a hayride to the pumpkin patch. And our personal favorite, Pigtucky Derby (pig races).

Ottawa Farms Corn Maze in Bloomingdale outside of Savannah will be open weekends in October starting Saturday, October 3. Come get lost in the maze & enjoy oodles of farm activities.
Hours each weekend in October:
Saturdays 1 pm-10 pm
Sundays 1 pm-6 pm
Admission is $10 for ages 5 and older. (ages 4 and younger are free with an accompanying parent!)
The admission covers everything except the Corn Cannon and items purchased in the store.

Free Skidaway Marine Science Day 2015, Skidaway Is., Savannah, Oct. 24 2015

This free campus-wide open house at The UGA Marine Extension Service & Aquarium on Skidaway Island offers activities geared for all ages. Programs, tours, displays and hands-on activities, primarily related to marine science and the coastal environment, are all part of the day’s educational fun.

Open to the public at no charge, the event is presented by the University of Georgia’s Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, the University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center and Aquarium, the University of Georgia’s Shellfish Research Laboratory and Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary.

One of the most exciting featured attractions this year will be a close-up look at Georgia’s first oyster hatchery, a project of the UGA Marine Extension’s Shellfish Research Laboratory and Georgia Sea Grant, units of UGA Public Service and Outreach.

Other activities include tours of the 92-foot Research Vessel Savannah, fun hands-on exhibits at the UGA Aquarium, and explorations of an underwater reef at Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary.

About Poppell Farms

Take a hayride to Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Linus in the pumpkin patch, get lost in the corn maze, ride the cow train, feed animals in the petting farm, try steer roping, Spyder Slyder and the all-time kids’ favorite, two crop hoppers, which are giant jumping air pillows that have kids giggling upon their first bounce.

PICNIC AREAS are available for use, so bring your own food or visit Poppell Farms’ CALF-A CONCESSION STAND for hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage dogs, chicken sandwiches & fries. Candy, popcorn & treats available.

Other activities include pony rides ($5); duck races; six & younger playground (with 2 bounce houses); hop-a-long rodeo; Betsy the Milk cow contest; large catfish pond (no fishing / watch them eat)
