Calling all homeschooling families! Amplify your student’s artist journey with an enriching workshop at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah. In this immersive experience, education and creativity collide to offer a field study for homeschooled students.
This event presents a unique opportunity for your students to acclimate into the art world as observers and creators. While they feed their creative minds among the exhibitions, they’ll meet other students and foster lasting community connections.
What to expect:
Artist appreciation: Encounter the work of diverse artists while touring the SCAD Museum of Art’s galleries with a museum educator.
* Artmaking: Express creative ideas at interactive art stations equipped with the necessary materials and guidance to create art inspired by work seen in the museum.
*Build community: Connect with other homeschooling families who share a passion for art and education.
*Learn as you go: Deepen your appreciation for the world of visual expression while learning more about art styles, social significance, and the use of varied materials.
All ages are welcome. Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Embark on a journey of artistic expression, discovery, and exploration with SCAD MOA educators @ Mini Masters Mornings, 11AM-Noon on Monday June 23 & Monday. July 21 2025.
Brimming with imaginative activities designed just for kiddos, each day is packed with programming inspired by the latest exhibitions. While enjoying art projects, gallery visits, outdoor play, creative indoor games, dance parties, and, of course, snack time, your budding geniuses (and you) can form new friendships.

Join SCAD alum Suzanne Nelson (B.F.A., furniture design, 2014) as she guides you through the fine-tuned art of furniture design. Drawing inspiration from works in the galleries, including Samuel Ross’ multimedia exhibition HEAVE, students are invited to create their own functional yet fantastical designs.

Teen Night: Sophisticated selfies

Learn the fundamentals of photography with SCAD alum Robin Maaya (B.F.A., photography, 2021) as she guides students on how to adjust their cell phone camera settings to take self-portraits like the images seen in SCAD deFINE ART honoree Zanele Muholi’s eponymous exhibition.

Appreciate the ambient art of watercolors and architectural illustration with SCAD alum and artist Derek Larson (M.F.A., sequential art, 2011). While you engage in live portrayal, hear more about the SCAD Museum of Art’s structural history as you bring its walls to life through pigment.

Teen Night: Timeless techniques

Collaborate with SCAD graduate student Joanna Paige Silver (M.F.A. painting) to practice the Japanese art of chine collé! Garner inspiration from the works showcased in the museum collection and lobby exhibition Vera & Friends: Artist Scarves by Vera Neumann and Massif Central — which features designs made using the same technique — while creating your own prints using this special transfer process.
