Juneteenth Free Family Day, Sat. June 8 2019, 1-4PM.
Juneteenth is the oldest public celebration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Telfair kicks off its 12th annual Juneteenth observance with a Free Family Day filled with storytelling and demonstrations highlighting African American history and Gullah culture on Sat. June 8 2019.
Included are storytelling programs by longtime presenters Jamal Toure and Queen Quet, hands-on activities for students, demonstrations of traditional crafts, a 3pm musical performance, and more. Join us for a free day of fun and learning!
Telfair’s celebration was founded by local historian and poet Vaughnette Goode-Walker, who remains the event’s creative force.
