Government Shutdown Closures in the Savannah, Lowcountry area

Fort Pulaski National Monument Savannah government shutdown closed

If you’re planning to take the kids to complete junior ranger programs at any national monuments in the Savannah & Lowcountry area, please note that many are closed due to the federal government shutdown including:

(Savannah) Fort Pulaski National Monument just outside Savannah is closed. Fort Pulaski Web site will not be updated & may not reflect current conditions.

(Charleston SC) Fort Sumter National Monument is closed. All Fort Sumter National Monument sites (Liberty Square, Fort Sumter, and Fort Moultrie) will be closed to visitors during the government shutdown.

(St. Simons, Ga) Fort Frederica National Monument on St. Simons Island park grounds will be accessible. However, the NPS will not operate the park and facilities will be closed. No visitor services provided. hazardous or dangerous conditions may exist.

(St. Mary’s, Ga) Cumberland Is. National Seashore remains open, however no visitor services, facilities, or ferry service will be provided. Campers will be notified of final ferry departure from the island.

(Macon, Ga.) Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon is closed . The website will not be updated and may not reflect current conditions. All of Ocmulgee National Monument is closed. Phones, emails, and social media will not be monitored.

Those planning to head to Atlanta to visit the The Martin Luther King, Jr. NHP for MLK Jr. Day weekend, please note the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta is closed during the federal government shutdown.
