Skirmishes between Confederates and Federals will be going on throughout the day.

Visitors will be able to explore the fortifications in its most solemn hour as the Confederates attempt to hold off the advancing armies of General Sherman from taking Fort McAllister, and ultimately, Savannah.

Rifle and cannon firing engagements will occur throughout the day between both sides, leading up to the assault and capture of the fortifications. Visitors need to be in the fort no later than 4:30 p.m. to see the final assault, which will occur promptly at 5 p.m. The fort grounds will be closed to visitors between 3:30 and 4 p.m. so soldiers participating in the main assault can prepare accordingly. The fort grounds will be reopened between 4 and 4:30 p.m.
