Check out Savannah Children’s Museum, next to Georgia State Railroad Museum. The museum offers daily kids’ activities during summer Mon.-Sat., weather permitting.

Savannah Children’s Museum is opening in 2 phases. Exploration Station is phase 1 and is a unique 1 acre, 2 level outdoor exhibit area set in the ruins of a Central of Georgia Railroad building.

SCHOOL YEAR HOURS:
From August 31st, 2013 until June 1 2014, Savannah Children’s Museum will be open 10am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-4pm on Sundays. Closed Mondays. SCM will be open on most  “Holiday Mondays” including (Feb. 17 2014) when Savannah Chatham County Schools are not in session. Summer hours start in June.

Creative Crafts : a fun program designed to allow children to create something special to take home using their imaginations and creativity. This program is generally appropriate for ages 3-12.
Story Time: (a classic read-aloud program for children of all ages. The books read during each story time will be chosen based on the ages of children participating)
Super Science (This is an experiment based science program that will introduce children to interesting science concepts through REALLY COOL investigations! This program is generally appropriate for ages 4-12.)

Georgia History Festival’s Georgia Day Parade
Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 10:30 a.m. Along Bull Street from Forsyth Park to City Hall, Savannah
As part of the annual commemoration of the founding of the Georgia colony of February 12, 1733 by James Edward Oglethorpe, a tradition dating back to the earliest years of the colony’s founding, students, musicians, local dignitaries, and costumed historical figures march through Savannah’s historic squares during this beloved annual event. We love this! Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah will participate in the 2014 Great Backyard Bird Count on February 14 through 17 2014.

All that weekend the park will have special bird programs and guided hikes. They’ll be counting birds on the hikes as well as counting at the Interpretive Center bird feeders.

Stop by for 15 minutes or all day to participate. Stay tuned for program specifics. Note that although it is a Monday, the Interpretive Center will be open February 17 because it is President’s Day.

The park always has binoculars and bird identification books in the Interpretive Center’s bird room. So even if you cannot make this special event, you can always check out our latest bird visitors.

Maggie’s Morning School in Savannah will begin open registration for the 2014-2015 school year on February 3rd, 2014.

Maggie’s Morning School will NOT have a weekend open house for the BFTS (lottery state funded) Pre-K program as in the past. Instead, parents may register any time beginning on Monday February 3rd. Please note, this is popular preschool and registration is taken on a first come first served basis. So if you want your child to attend, register as early as possible.

Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 for the Pre-K. Required documents include proof of birth and proof of residence; registrations will not be accepted without both documents.

Maggie’s Morning School is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Don’t miss the FREE winter family stargazing event @ Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens (formerly called The Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens ) in Savannah: Gazing in the Garden!

The Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens in conjunction with the Oglethorpe Astronomical Association invite you to a night of stargazing in the Garden. Saturday March 8 2014 6:30 PM. Telescopes will be set up for observation, but you are welcome to bring your own. Free & open to the public.

Before the star-gazing, you’re also invited to a free showing of a classic 1950s sci-fi movie in the Annex. Be prepared for less-than-ideal acting and effects in the movie, but know telescope views of the rising moon and stars await you on the Great Lawn.

Once the sun sets, join the group on the Great Lawn to view the waxing gibbous moon and other celestial entities! Dress for the weather, and feel free to bring a lawn chair, hot cocoa/coffee as you gaze upward with the help of telescopes set up by the Association. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited

We had a blast at opening night Wednesday of The Greatest Show On Earth®.

Be sure to add the circus to your family fun list for this weekend. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Super Circus Heroes  will be at the Savannah Civic Center January 22-26 2014.

While the kids loved every bit of the Circus Super Heroes, Asian elephants, horses, camels & acrobats, the four little kid volunteers from the audience definitely stole the show with their antics with the clowns. If you’ve got floor seats, be sure your kids are ready to volunteer to participate. And no, they will not be made to do any acrobatics.

Don’t forget to arrive early for the interactive All Access Pre-show, which takes place on the arena floor one hour before the show and is FREE TO ALL TICKET HOLDERS. This is a fun way to get close to the performers. The actual circus is about 2 hours with an intermission.

Time to start getting in the Irish spirit. Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day parade isn’t til March. But the festivities kick off in February with The Savannah Irish Festival, Feb. 14-16, 2014 at the Savannah Civic Center.

The festival begins Friday night with a traditional Céili where those who attend will be taught Irish folk dancing in large groups.

The festival continues through the weekend with four stages of live entertainment, food, crafts and fun including the top Irish traditional acts and Irish Dancing. The Children’s Area features bounce houses, a free arts and crafts area for kids, face painting & live entertainment.

The Festival Cultural Stage will provide discussions on various topics of Irish History, Irish Literature and Irish Music.

Attendees can also browse the vendor booths and enjoy food prepared by Savannah’s many Irish Organizations.

Children under 14 are admitted FREE! A one day ticket for Saturday or Sunday costs $12 and a two day ticket is $16, plus service charges for both from the Civic Center Box Office.

This looks worth the roadtrip to Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, north of Atlanta: Family Science Night on Feb 21.  Family Science Night welcomes Sid the Science Kid, the star of his own TV show that airs on Georgia Public Broadcasting. Mrs. Marina Lindblom will once again be teaching some of the Kindermusik classes, which start February 2014 at a BRAND NEW LOCATION! This location is highly convenient, located in Savannah, but close to Pooler (and S. Effingham & Richmond Hill, too), close to shopping and other “need-to-run-errands-after-class” places.

Soon Kindermusik will have their very OWN location, giving them the ability to offer classes whenever it’s convenient for YOU, not just their locations. Perks of the future spot include: plenty of space in a colorful, clean Kindermusik “NO SHOES” room, state of the art sound, free wifi, a comfortable waiting room and a nice set up for nursing mothers.

At the studio, Kindermusik will eventually offer one-time playdates as YOU request them, musical birthday parties, private music lessons throughout the
week; free DEMO classes for prospective visitors; weekend and later afternoon classes, preschool and school aged Kindermusik classes, baby
changing and restroom facilities.
