Bring your pets to St. Patrick’s Church any time between Noon and 3PM on Saturday October 3 to receive a blessing. Organizers ask that pets be restrained by leash or in cages, as even normally calm animals can react unexpectedly to unfamiliar surroundings.

If you can, please help support other pets by bringing some of the items the Humane Society has requested to help the animals in their care.

Every year, Nickelodeon™ goes completely dark for three hours on Worldwide Day of Play, taking programming off the air on all of its channels and shutting down its websites to reinforce one simple message: Get up, get out, and go play! Over the years, these efforts have resulted in thousands of events and millions of kids being active and pursuing healthy lifestyles.

On Sept. 26, Savannah Children’s Museum will also welcome Whole Foods Market of Savannah from 10:30AM-1:30PM. Guests of all ages will learn about the wonders of organic herbs, taste some wonderful herb pairings with fruits and vegetables, and take home organic herb seeds to plant in their own garden.

More than 75 children’s museums throughout the United States are hosting local Worldwide Day of Play (WWDoP) celebrations to get kids excited about healthy, active play. Through creative, play-based learning experiences, Savannah Children’s Museum educates children and their caregivers about the importance of play for children’s healthy development.

Matilda Jane Clothing has recognized its Savannah area independent Trunk Keepers as the top sales team in the nation.

At the clothing company’s national sales meeting, held recently at its Ft. Wayne, Ind. headquarters, the 20-member team and Leader, Robyn Shirley took top honors for highest sales for the spring 2015 “Hello Lovely” campaign.

The six-month campaign, featuring clothing for little girls and mothers, was launched in Savannah this past February. The city was also featured as the backdrop for the spring line in a national photo shoot that took place last fall.

Shirley is now looking to expand her Savannah area team of Trunk Keepers and is seeking candidates. For more information here.

Similar to the way a triathlon tests an athlete’s physical fitness through three athletic challenges, the TriMathlon tests a mathlete’s mental fitness through three fun-filled math challenges:

The Counting Game
Tests students’ ability to count from any number, to any number, by any number.
Magic Squares Challenge
Students are awarded points for developing their own math problems.
Mental Math Workout
Tests students’ number sense by asking them to solve problems without pencil and paper.
Questions become increasingly more difficult as the event progresses.

Participants receive a fun goody bag and a certificate of participation and earn money for local schools. The top three scorers in each grade level at each center will receive additional medals and prizes.

James is 4 years old and was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August of 2013. James has gone through quite a bit in his short life. He’s endured chemo, radiation, bone marrow biopsies, transfusions and many more procedures.

Expected to be done with treatment in December of 2016, James is a happy boy who loves video games, super heroes, trucks…all things little boy. He has good days and some not so good days as a side effect from his treatment.

With all that he has been through, his family says they are so very thankful that most days he is just a wild little boy.

Moms In Training is a way to help cancer patients like James.

“We are starting a new tradition at the Wilmington Island Farmers’ market. We will hold Halloween early in the day so children can enjoy a fun and safe day. Students will build miniature oil painting kits and use them to explore techniques of value and color blocking to create fast plein air paintings. Set out to experience and document the beauty of Savannah armed only with a cigar-box “easel” containing everything you need, from paints to brushes and canvas. This class is perfect for new painters as well as the experienced artist interested in new working methods. Let’s go old-school like the Master Impressionists and take to the open fall air. Join us as we observe the world in the natural light and paint Savannah’s many colorful historical squares and sites.
