Stella & Dot jewelry opportunity event for moms looking for a flexible income

    Monday, February 1st, 2010

stella-and-dot-jewelryStella & Dot is a fast growing direct selling company that is catching the eyes of Lucky Magazine, The Today Show, The New York Times, and InStyle Magazine.

The San Francisco based company has grown over 600 percent since launching back in 2008.

Laurie Herrin deVegter, a Savannah resident, is an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot. “You can

    Stella & Dot Jewelry

    Stella & Dot Jewelry

think of me as a modern-day Avon lady with beautiful and affordable jewelry,” laughs Laurie. “We do not sell in stores, have something for every taste and budget, and are excited to start our “Mommy and Me” line this year,” she says.

The founder of Stella & Dot, Jessica Herrin (no relation to deVegter), is a known entrepreneur. Jessica started and sold WeddingChannel.com and has been featured on Oprah. When she became a mother, Jessica founded Stella & Dot as a flexible way for women at all stages of life to launch a career.

“Our Company paid over 9 million dollars in commissions last year and grew by 4000 stylists,” Laurie explains. “Our goal is to add 10,000 stylists in 2010. The company’s flexibility is attractive to a wide array of women – from the stay at home mom looking for a flexible income opportunity all the way up to the woman looking for a full time career.”

Laurie is looking to spread the Stella & Dot message to women interested in becoming stylists in the Coastal Empire.

Laurie recommends hosting a trunk show before signing up as a stylist. “When you are hosting a Stella & Dot party in your home or

    Stella & Dot Jewelry

at work, you really fall in love with the vintage-styling of the line and you start to understand how the business works,” Laurie says. “Plus, our hostesses usually end up with around $250 in jewelry credits at the end of the trunk show.”

You can come see what the buzz is about this Thur., Feb. 4. Laurie will be joined by the Directors from Stella and Dot at the Avia Hotel in Downtown Savannah. The Spring & Summer line will be on display and the team will be sharing their experiences with Stella & Dot.

Mom-friendly auto repair at RPM Autoworx in Savannah

    Monday, January 18th, 2010
The comfy, clean lounge at RPM Autoworx, which includes a kids' play area, is just one of the attributes of this mom-owned auto repair shop.

The comfy, clean lounge at RPM Autoworx, which includes a kids' play area, is just one of the attributes of this mom-owned auto repair shop.

Mechanics who don’t work on commission, seminars to make women auto-savvy, and a waiting room that feels like a Starbucks: Check out the mom-owned auto repair shop – RPM Autoworx - I wrote about in my Sunday newspaper column here.

Step inside the LEED-certified building housing RPM Autoworx and you’ll feel like you’re in a swank doctor’s office.
Or better yet, a clean and green posh cafe.

Original art on the wall. Trendy light fixtures. Hip furnishings. Free Wi-Fi and drinks. TV. A children’s play area is stocked with Thomas the Train and the Little People. A large window allows you to watch the mechanics work on your vehicle.

There’s even a private breast-feeding area to accommodate new moms. After all, RPM is next to the Midwife Group/Family Health & Birth Center on Chatham Parkway.

The idea is for women to feel welcome at RPM, rather than intimidated or taken advantage of.

Also a rare find in an auto repair shop, RPM employees are paid a salary, rather than paid a commission, so they are not financially motivated to find something wrong with your ride.

Two thumbs up for Tippy Toes Pottery

    Sunday, November 8th, 2009

tippy-toes-pottery1Attention Savannah and Hilton Head Is. moms groups!  Here’s a fun idea for an event: have a Tippy Toes Pottery party.

Tippy Toes is an amazing concept developed by local mompreneur Amanda Reed, who uses your child’s footprints, hand prints and finger prints to create a whimsical painting on pottery.

Think large lobster serving platter, which the claws of the lobster are a child’s footprints or a magical garden with flowers made of a child’s handprints. The artwork includes the child’s name and year.

I was thrilled to attend a Tippy Toes open house today, where Amanda made prints of my two children’s hands and feet to create creative and sentimental presents for the grandparents!

Check out some of the gifts Tippy Toes can create for you here.

tippy-toes-pottery-exampleTippy Toes Pottery travels around to events. Hosting a tippy toes event is a great way to get your friends together to make precious memories.

A New Marketplace for Mompreneurs, Cottage-Based Industries

    Saturday, July 18th, 2009

savannah-mall-marketplace1Are you looking to grow your home-based business? Open another? Move to a location with heavy foot traffic? Expand to the Savannah market?

Discover the Coastal Empire’s largest, year-round indoor Marketplace: THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL.

It’s a new indoor shopping destination that convenes neighborhood-style shops with dazzling and curious wares. This is a great opportunity for all of you creative moms with a cottage industry – aromatherapy, yoga, quilting, scrapbooking, gourmet foods, or monogramming. Think of this forthcoming marketplace as a live, in-person version of Etsy.

Beginning with 90,000 square feet, which formerly housed Steve and Barry’s, THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH redefines will be the Coastal Empire’s largest, year-round indoor marketplace. Your shop can be in place just in time for the holidays.

The goal is to have a shopping village, a retail square inside the mall, small shops with relatively small budgets next to a big department store.

On Fri. July 31, Savannah Mall is hosting an open house to introduce THE MARKETPLACE AT SAVANNAH MALL to prospective shopkeepers. For more info, contact Chardell Steves at Savannah Mall: chardell.steves@ savannahmall.com or 912.927.7467. Tell them SouthernMamas sent you!
