Teach your kids culture, host an exchange student

chi-exchange-photoEver consider teaching your children about other countries, cultures and languages by hosting an exchange student?

Ali Scott @ Cultural Homestay International (CHI) within the Academic Year Program says hosting an exchange student is an amazing opportunity for your family.

The AYP offers students in other countries the opportunity to come to the United States for a school year. Students come from over 30 countries; come with their own money to pay for school supplies, activity fees, entertainment, etc; and have health insurance.

Host families are asked to provide room and board, and to welcome the student as a member of their family. Because the students will be attending school, they already have a good base of English skills.

You have the opportunity to choose the student you will host. And Ali will work with you to find a student who will be a good match for your family, as well as monitor the placement during the student’s entire stay.

Host families can be single parent homes, couples without children or grown children, families with small children, and, of course, families with teenagers. If you wish to send your own children abroad, you would receive a discount on any of the CHI programs if you have hosted a student through CHI.

The host family application process is completed on-line, and includes a criminal background check and references. Ali interviews all family members in your home and reviews the rules of the program (there is also a complete host family orientation before the students arrive).
